Our View:Why? Why would the Rockies continue to run Reynolds out there when it is clear that he has no shot at success? As if it isn't hard enough to pitch in Colorado, it now appears the team is intent on destroying the confidence of their 2006 first round pick. Oh yeah, if you want numerical proof of what we are talking about here is what the numbers look like over his last four appearances: 0-2 with a 31.75 ERA and a 4.76 WHIP in 5.2 innings. Disgraceful.
September 15, 2008 Greg Reynolds served up nine hits and seven runs over only two innings against the Padres on Monday night. His ERA rose to 7.42.
Our View:It's been a bit of a nightmare year for the Rockies younger pitchers. Ubaldo Jimenez has been mostly solid, but Reynolds, Jeff Francis, and Franklin Morales have all struggled. All three of those hurlers still have promise, but they could use some pointers from Aaron Cook.
September 11, 2008 Greg Reynolds will replace the struggling Livan Hernandez in the Rockies starting rotation, according to the Associated Press.
Our View:It's about time. As awful as Reynolds has been this year (6.60 ERA, 1.55 WHIP), the youngster is still a major step up over Hernandez who has been beaten like a pinata since joining the Rockies (1-3, 9.85 ERA). Don't count on either the rest of the season.
July 27, 2008 Greg Reynolds is out of action at Triple-A Colorado Springs due to an impingement (inflammation) in the back of his shoulder, according to the Rocky Mountain News.
Our View:He is expected to be ready to resume pitching soon, but the team may opt to be cautious with him as he underwent shoulder surgery last year.
July 5, 2008 Greg Reynolds has been demoted to Triple-A Colorado Springs, the Rocky Mountain News reports. Veteran southpaw Glendon Rusch will be called up to take his place. Reynolds allowed seven hits and seven runs over 1.1 innings on Friday.
Our View:Reynolds, who turned 23 on Thursday, obviously needs some more work. He still has a bright future, but keeper league owners need to be patient.
