Royals pitcher Luke Hochevar is out for the season with a bruised right rib cage, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View:The No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft, Hochevar was transferred Sunday from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL to help make room for Brandon Duckworth. The right-hander ended his season 6-12 with a 5.51 ERA.

Royals pitcher Luke Hochevar is heading to the disabled list, perhaps for an extended stay, after suffering a perplexing bruise above his right rib cage in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to the Indians at Progressive Field, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Hochevar remained at a loss Wednesday to explain the cause of the injury, which surfaced as he was throwing warm-up pitches in the sixth inning. The Royals replaced Hochevar by recalling reliever Josh Newman from Class AAA Omaha.

Luke Hochevar is considered day-to-day with tightness in his right ribcage, the AP reports.

Our View:The former first overall pick hopefully won't need to miss a start. Hochevar hasn't helped fantasy owners this season, but we're hoping he is learning his lessons while taking his lumps and can help in 2009.
August 19, 2008
Luke Hochevar left his start on Tuesday after five innings due to an undisclosed injury, the AP reports. Assistant trainer Frank Kyte visited the mound while Hochevar was warming up for the sixth innings.

Our View:We anticipate an update before the night is out, and we'll provide more details when available.
August 13, 2008
The Royals found no semblence of offense tonight, falling 4-0 to the Chicago White Sox and leaving RHP Luke Hochevar with no support despite his strong effort. Hochevar pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:The lack of offense is not surprising but still ranks as frustrating. Hochevar falls to 6-11 on the season with a 5.44 ERA, going 1-6 since July 1.
