Rasmus will sit out winter ball, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I don't think it's as much a knee thing as much as it is a personal decision," Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said. "It's not uncommon for a player to sit there in August and wonder about the validity of going. He may believe there's more value to experiencing his normal offseason program."

Our View:Rasmus could still make the Cardinals' roster next season with a strong spring.

Colby Rasmus came to St. Louis this week to have his knee evaluated, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. GM John Mozeliak said the health of the knee is one reason he hasn't been considered for a September promotion to the Cardinals. The team still hopes Rasmus will accept an invitation to play winter ball, knee permitting.

Our View:Fantasy owners will have to wait until 2009 for the prized outfield prospect to make an impact.

Cardinals outfield prospect Colby Rasmus will not be among the players called up when rosters expand in September, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "He hasn't earned it," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said.

Our View:Rasmus suffered from a sprained knee in July, but he has not had a good year in Triple-A, so he won't be on the big league team. Fantasy owners will just have to wait until next year.

Updating an earlier report, Colby Rasmus's injured knee has been determined to be a sprained knee ligament, a Grade 1 sprain of his MCL, that will force him out of action for at least a month, according to MLB.com.

Our View:This injury obviously makes it doubtful that Rasums will see any time with the Cardinals this year. Another side bar is that Rasmus was obviously removed from the US Olympic squad as he will be replaced by Nate Schierholtz of the Giants.

Colby Rasmus was forced to leave Tuesday's game with Triple-A Memphis due to a knee injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He is scheduled for an MRI today.

Our View:He just returned to the team following time off due to a groin injury. Rasmus is the Cardinals' top prospect, but has had trouble staying healthy this season in the minors, which slowed his development.
