September 23, 2008
Mitch Talbot is gearing up for his first career start tonight at Baltimore, according to the Tampa Tribune. He will work the nightcap of a doubleheader.

Our View:Talbot is not a top pitching prospect, and is not worth acquiring for his lone start tonight. He is not likely going to challenge for a spot in the 2009 rotation either.
September 13, 2008
The Rays recalled Mitch Talbot from Triple-A Durham Saturday.

Our View:Talbot posted a 3.86 ERA and 141/35 K/BB rate over 161 innings in the minors. He'll serve as a long man out of the pen.
May 23, 2008
Mitch Talbot's hot streak continues. The 24-year-old right-hander tossed eight shutout innings on Thursday night and improved to 5-3. He walked none and struck out seven. Talbot is 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 0.89 WHIP over his last five starts.

Our View:The Rays are too stacked with pitching prospects for us to get very excited about Talbot's recent work. There's no easy or clear path to the majors, but the Rays probably have him on their radar as a long relief or fill-in starter option down the road.

Mitch Talbot threw seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Durham on Monday to improve his record to 3-3. He didn’t allow any walks and struck out eight.

Our View:Talbot was one of two prospects that the Rays acquired for Aubrey Huff from Houston in 2006. He is not a terrible pitching prospect, but the Rays do have more than a handful of prospects that are more highly regarded. The 24-year-old still has a solid 31/8 K/BB ratio in 38.1 innings this season and has not allowed a run in his last two starts. With continued progress, he could find himself in a long relief role later this season.
