Newsbreakers
July 31, 2008
The Rays have refused to part with Reid Brignac in any potential deal, according to SI's Jon Heyman. They have been talking to the Pirates about Jason Bay and the Reds about Adam Dunn.

Our View:It will be hard for the Rays to land either Bay or Dunn if they refuse to give up Brignac, since he would likely be the main piece in any potential deal. The Rays do still have plenty of pitching prospects to give up.
July 14, 2008
Reid Brignac has been optioned back to Triple-A Durham, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Al Reyes is expected to be activated from the DL following the All-Star break.

Our View:Brignac did not register a hit over 10 at-bats with the Rays, and reached base once on a walk. He held no fantasy value.
July 4, 2008
Reid Brignac will be in the Rays lineup hitting ninth, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:He did not have wonderful offensive numbers in Triple-A, so it would be wise to hold off on putting him in any fantasy lineup.
July 3, 2008
Reid Brignac has been recalled from Triple-A Durham to take the roster spot of Jason Bartlett, who was placed on the 15-day DL, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Brignac was not tearing it up offensively in the minors, with just a .265 average and .312 on-base percentage. He has decent pop with the bat, as 32 of his 75 hits went for extra bases, but he does not have fantasy value right now.
May 22, 2008
Reid Brignac hit his fifth home run of the season for Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Our View:Brignac is a top shortstop prospect, but he still has a long way to go with his patience at the plate. Despite hitting .286-5-23, Brignac has a poor 8/35 BB/K ratio this season. Regardless of Jason Bartlett’s struggles, Brignac should be at least a half-season away from getting a real chance in the majors.
