Newsbreakers
July 28, 2008
Rick VandenHurk has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque, according to the AP. The team is yet to announce an adjoining move.

Our View:He was rocked for five earned runs over 3.2 innings in Sunday's loss to the Cubs, and the team decided it was time to give VandenHurk the hook.
July 22, 2008
Pitching in his first major league game since April 6th, Rick VandenHurk threw five innings of no-hit ball while striking out seven for the win on Tuesday. He did walk five batters on the night.

Our View:Overall, this is an impressive performance. Of course, the five walks are a concern, but the Braves could not hit VandenHurk tonight. It's too early to tell if Rick will be a fantasy factor in the second half.
July 22, 2008
As expected, Rick VandenHurk has been called up for tonight's start against the Braves, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:VandenHurk allowed seven earned runs and 12 hits over 5.1 innings with the Marlins prior to his demotion, and ranks as a risky option for NL-only leagues for tonight's start.
July 21, 2008
The Marlins are expected to call up Rick VandenHurk to start on Tuesday against the Braves, the Palm Beach Post reports. The right-hander made two starts for the Marlins early in the year, and he has gone 3-3 with a 4.23 ERA at Double-A Carolina.

Our View:The Dutchman has pitched pretty well this July, but he might only be up for one turn through the rotation. The Marlins have been patching together the starters and have Anibal Sanchez coming back soon, too.
April 7, 2008
The Marlins didn't waste any time in demoting Rick VandenHurk. They sent him down to Double-A Carolina following his awful outing on Sunday. "I'm not happy with it, but if you're not doing your job, that's what happens," VandenHurk tells the Miami Herald.
