Newsbreakers
September 24, 2008
Kyle McClellan was named the Cardinals Rookie of the Year on Wednesday, according to the Cardinals web site.

Our View:Even though McClellan has had a breakthrough year, he has struggled the last few weeks giving up 10 earned runs over his last six appearances.
September 22, 2008
Kyle McClellan reported no serious issue when he grimaced after a seventh-inning pitch Sunday against the Cubs, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:He was able to remain in the game, but allowed the Cubs their final run on a two-out wild pitch. The reliever has now allowed 10 earned runs over his last six appearances, and should continue to be avoided in all leagues.
September 1, 2008
Kyle McClellan blew his fifth save of the year by allowing four hits and three runs to the Diamondbacks as he also picked up his seventh loss of the year.

Our View:McClellan has slowly started going downhill after a solid start to the year as he has allowed six runs in his last six innings. He doesn't hold much, if any, fantasy value at the moment.
July 8, 2008
Kyle McClellan continues his impressive work in the Cardinals bullpen. He picked up his 19th hold of the season while shutting out the Phillies in the eighth inning on Tuesday night.

Our View:If your league is counting holds and McClellan is available, he has earned a roster spot in deep leagues and NL-only formats.

If the injuries to starters Adam Wainwright and Todd Wellemeyer turn out to be worse than expected, the Cardinals will consider inserting Kyle McClellan into the rotation, pitching coach Dave Duncan told KSDK Channel 5. Duncan added that if they move McClellan into a starter role, that's the role he'll remain in this year.

Our View:McClellan has been terrific out of the bullpen for the Cards this year, holding a 2.51 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 26/8 K/BB rate over 32 1/3 innings. The soon-to-be 24-year-old has some upside and could potentially be worth owning in mixed leagues if he is used as a starter, so keep an eye on this story.
