Our View:The Pirates claimed Meek from the Rays via the Rule 5 Draft. However, Meek had cleared waivers and was designated for assignment by the Rays, thus the Pirated had to sign a check to get the deal worked out.
May 4, 2008 Right-handed reliever Evan Meek has been designated for assignment, according to the AP. Pittsburgh has 10 days to trade, waive or release Meek. The team called up lefty reliever Sean Burnett from Triple-A Indianapolis, and Meek was seen as expendable to free up a roster spot.
Our View:Meek held a 4.85 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 13 innings this season, with seven strikeouts and 12 walks, and held no fantasy value prior to his demotion.
