Newsbreakers
September 17, 2008
A's closer Brad Ziegler blew his first save on Wednesday when Mark Teixeira hit a two-run home run off of him in the ninth inning. However, he managed to pick up his second win as the A's rallied in the bottom of the ninth to win 3-2.

Our View:It was Ziegler's first blemish in 55 innnings and he escaped with a victory. Not too bad for the rookie. Unfortunately, it caused his ERA to "ballon" from 0.50 to 0.82.
September 10, 2008
Brad Ziegler picked up his eighth save of the season in the A's 5-2 win over Detroit. He threw the ninth inning and allowed one hit.

Our View:Ziegler's ERA is an absurd 0.52. He has allowed just three earned runs in 52 innings. Certainly, those numbers are something fantasy owners can appreciate.
August 25, 2008
Brad Ziegler threw a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fifth save of the year in the A's 2-1 win over the Angels.

Our View:Ziegler has given up two runs in his last four appearances (the horror!) but he has obviously taken over the ninth inning role. He won't get a bunch of strikeouts, but he finds a way to get outs anyway.
August 18, 2008
Brad Ziegler allowed a run on two hits and a walk in two innings Monday but picked up another save. He now has a save in three of his last four appearances.

Our View:It's pretty clear that Ziegler is the team's closer now and not Huston Street, who hasn't had a save this month.
August 14, 2008
Oakland pitcher Brad Ziegler saw his scoreless inning streak hit 39.1 innings before allowing his first runs on a double by B.J. Upton which drove in Akinori Iwamura, who had singled. The A's wound up losing to the Rays 7-6.

Our View:That was one hell of a streak by Ziegler, but it had to end sometime. Still, he has fabulous numbers for the season and should be used in fantasy leagues now that he has been getting some save opportunities.
