Newsbreakers
September 25, 2008
After two good starts Johnny Cueto was terrible again on Thursday. He lasted just 2.2 innings and gave up seven hits, three walks and five earned runs while striking out just one batter.

Our View:Cueto started out hot out of the gates this season but remained inconsistent all season. He finishes the year 9-14 with a 4.81 ERA. He did manage 158 strikeouts in 175 innnings and should fare better next season.
September 20, 2008
Johnny Cueto only allowed two earned runs on six hits over six innings in Saturday's 4-3 win over Milwaukee, with no walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Cueto ended a four-game skid without a win, and picked up his ninth of the season.
September 14, 2008
Johnny Cueto needed 115 pitches to make it through five innings on Sunday, but despite four hits and six walks allowed, he permitted just a single run in the outing.

Our View:Dusty Baker's use of Cueto and Edinson Volquez, allowing them to rack up high pitch totals, is starting to draw some heat in the press and with good reason as the team clearly doesn't want to blow out their two best young arms.
September 2, 2008
Johnny Cueto is expected to return to the rotation on Saturday to face the Cubs. Cueto has been sidelined since late August because of soreness behind his elbow. It was later diagnosed as a posterior strain caused by a hyperextension.

Our View:There has been no official announcement made, but the team will probably bump Ramon Ramirez back to Triple-A.
August 26, 2008
Johnny Cueto's strained right elbow is not believed to be serious but he is still expected to miss one or two starts, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:The team will also proceed with caution with their promising young hurler, but they are not considering shutting him down early. Homer Bailey was the most likely candidate to fill Cueto's spot in the rotation, but he is nursing an injury of his own at Triple-A. Nick Masset is said to be a possibility, who was acquired from Chicago in the Griffey deal.
