The Red Sox recalled Jonathan Van Every from Triple-A Pawtucket Saturday.

Our View:Van Emery will give the team some depth in the outfield with J.D. Drew battling back problems.
June 29, 2008
Outfielder Jonathan Van Every went 3-for-3 with three home runs and five RBI in Sunday's Triple-A win over Rochester. He is hitting .323 with 12 homers, 24 RBI, and 25 runs over 26 games in June.

Our View:We're not sure what Van Every has been eating this month, but we want some of it. The 28-year-old received a cup of coffee in May, but the Red Sox don't have any room for him at this point.

Boston has optioned outfielder Jonathan Van Every to Triple-A Pawtucket, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View:To fill the spot on the roster, the Sox have purchased the contract of RHP Chris Smith from Pawtucket. Smith is going to add depth to a bullpen that is getting regular work as the Boston starting rotation struggles for health and reliability.
May 14, 2008
Jonathan Van Every was called up on Wednesday and will start in center against the Orioles, the Boston Globe confirms. The 28-year-old outfielder was batting .287-6-20 over 40 games for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Our View:Welcome to the bigs, Mr. Van Every. His stay could be short if J.D. Drew (wrist) and Coco Crisp (illness) aren't out too much longer.
