Newsbreakers
October 23, 2008
Jed Lowrie played since May with a sprain and a small non-displaced fracture in his left wrist, according to the Boston Globe. The injuries were discovered during an MRI on Tuesday. Boston GM Theo Epstein said that the injury has already begun to heal, and that it will be fine with three weeks of rest.

Our View:If what Epstein said is true, it shouldn't affect Lowrie beyond this season. It also could explain his end of the year slump, as the injuries finally might have caught up with him. Lowrie finished the season batting 8-for-51, and just .207 during the playoffs.

Jed Lowrie is slated for an MRI Tuesday, according to the Boston Herald. He battled wrist soreness for most of the season.

Our View:He also noted that it just may be fatigue as he never played this long of a season before. He believes he initially injured the wrist back in May with Triple-A Pawtucket.
October 3, 2008
The Boston Globe reports that Alex Cora replaces Jed Lowrie at shortstop in Game 2 of the ALDS in Anaheim.

Our View:Lowrie has been the everyday shortstop in the second half and was 1-for-3 in Game 1 with a run scored. Cora is 2-for-3 in his career against Ervin Santana (Friday's starter) and hit .270 this season to Lowrie's .258.
September 12, 2008
Jed Lowrie busted out of his slump on Friday by going 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs. He also walked and contributed a sacrafice.

Our View:The rookie switch-hitter was hitting .200 over his previous 21 games, and 8-for-41 in the past 12 games. Julio Lugo remains questionable regarding his return, so the Red Sox will continue to give the rookie starts.
August 24, 2008
Jed Lowrie went deep in the 11th inning on Saturday, giving the Red Sox a 6-5 win over Toronto. It was his only hit on the day in five at-bats.

Our View:Lowrie has been solid filling in for Mike Lowell at third, but this home run was his first since May 10. He has moderate fantasy value because of his lack of power, and his playing time will wane when Lowell returns.
