Jaime Garcia has opted to undergo ligament replacement surgery on his pitching elbow Monday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:He will spend most of the 2009 campaign rehabbing. He is one of the Cardinals' top pitching prospects, and was being considered for a bottom spot in the rotation for next season prior to his injury.

Jaime Garcia is considering ligament replacement surgery on his left elbow, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Garcia, who made one spot start and nine relief appearances for St. Louis this season, was expected to seek a second opinion on his elbow after receiving an initial recommendation of surgery.

Our View:The Cardinals were considering the 22-year-old hurler a candidate for the rotation as a No. 5 starter in 2009 prior to his injury.

Jaime Garcia will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis to serve as left-handed relief out of the bullpen for the Cardinals, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Garcia was successful in his earlier stint in the big leagues, but does not have a great deal of fantasy value as a middle reliever.

Jaime Garcia was demoted to Triple-A Memphis despite a quality start on Sunday. Mitchell Boggs was recalled.

Our View:The move was made to strengthen the Cardinals taxed bullpen. Garcia pitched well and could be back sooner rather than later.

Pitcher Jaime Garcia will start next Sunday when the Cardinals play San Diego, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Garcia is here, so we should see what he can do. It's a good spot to see how he handles himself," St. Louis pitching coach Dave Duncan said.

Our View:Garcia is the top pitching prospect in the Cardinals organization. He has made one appearance in relief, throwing two scoreless innings. Keep an eye out to see how he does in San Diego before adding him to your fantasy team.
