Newsbreakers
November 9, 2008
Third baseman Mat Gamel was named the Milwaukee Brewers Minor League Organizational Player of the Year, according to MLB.com. Gamel hit .329-19-96 with a .395 OBP on the year.

Our View:With Matt LaPorta now in Cleveland, Gamel is now the most exciting Brewers position prospect. With Ryan Braun now in the outfield, Gamel would appear to be set up with a shot to be the Brewers opening day starter at third base next season.
September 2, 2008
Mat Gamel has been promoted to the Brewers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View:Bill Hall and Craig Counsell are not firmly planted at third base, and Gamel hit very well in the minors this season. He could be worth scooping up as a flier for NL-only leagues, but it remains uncertain how much action he will see.
August 31, 2008
Third baseman Mat Gamel will move up to the big leagues on Monday. The Brewers will also bring up shortstop Alcides Escobar, catcher Angel Salome, first baseman Brad Nelson, pitchers Mitch Stetter, Tim Dillard and Mark DiFelice, infielder Joe Dillon, outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr., and catcher Vinny Rottino, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.

Our View:Gamel is the most interesting name on this list, which includes some other nice prospects. Bill Hall and Craig Counsell don't exactly scare opposing pitchers with their work at third base, and Gamel pounded the ball at Double-A this year. We're not sure how much time the Brewers will give him, but we're hoping Mat gets a shot to play regularly.
May 19, 2008
Mat Gamel went 2-for-4 with his 10th home run of the season for Double-A Huntsville on Monday. He is now hitting .372 this season.

Our View:Gamel is legitimately an elite prospect now that his power has emerged. The 22-year-old is hitting .372-10-38 with a 1.097 OPS. Triple-A, anyone?
May 11, 2008
Mat Gamel went 3-for-4 with his third home run in three games for Double-A Huntsville on Saturday.

Our View:Gamel has been flat out unbelievable recently. He is now hitting .375-8-33 for the season. Gamel is now only one home run away from his total from all of last season at High-A, and he is quickly emerging as an elite third base prospect.
