Newsbreakers
September 28, 2008
Micah Hoffpauir is likely to beat Pie for a spot on the postseason roster, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:Pie provides much better speed on the basepaths, but Hoffpauir is a better hitter as he holds a .357 average over 70 at-bats.
September 25, 2008
Micah Hoffpauir hit his first and second career home runs against the Mets on Thursday night. He started in place of Derrek Lee and batted third. He also added a double and finished the night with five RBI and two runs scored. The Cubs lost 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth.

Our View:Micah Hoffpauir almost single-handedly beat the Mets. *AHEM* Micah Hoffpauir almost single-handedly beat the Mets. This probably does not bode well for the Mets' playoff hopes. Hoffpauir is now hitting .387 in 30 games with the Cubs this season.
September 20, 2008
Micah Hoffpauir was named the Chicago Cubs Minor League player of the year award, according to Cubs.com.

Our View:Hoffpauir had a ridiculous season at Triple-A, as in just 71 games he hit .362 with 25 home runs and 100 RBI. He had a decent year in the big leagues as well, but at age 28, he can no longer be considered a prospect.
August 31, 2008
The Cubs will add first baseman Micah Hoffpauir, catcher Koyie Hill, pitcher Michael Wuertz, and third baseman Casey McGehee to the roster on Monday, MLB.com confirms.

Our View:No surprises here. Hoffpauir hit .362-25-100 over 71 games for Triple-A Iowa this year, and we'd be excited if he wasn't blocked by Derrek Lee.
July 18, 2008
Micah Hoffpauir is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Iowa soon to bolster the Cubs' bench, according to the Chicago Tribune. Kevin Hart or Neal Cotts would be the top candidates to be sent down to make room on the roster.

Our View:He hit .400 over 35 at-bats prior to getting sent down, and he would replace Matt Murton, who was dealt to Oakland in the Rich Harden deal.
