October 15, 2008 Charlie Manning was claimed off waivers on Wednesday from the Nationals and will now become property of the Cardinals, according to The Sports Network. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals designated Josh Phelps for assignment.
Our View:Manning appeared in 57 games in 2008 for the Nationals posting poor ratios (5.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP), thanks in no small part to a terrible 1.19 K/BB ratio. He merits no attention at the moment.
May 23, 2008 The Nationals promoted reliever Charlie Manning on Friday, the Washington Post notes. The 29-year-old southpaw has never been in the majors. He was 0-0 with a 1.95 ERA and six saves over 19 appearances at Triple-A Columbus.
Our View:Nothing like a rookie lefty reliever to get fantasy owners excited, huh? Manning has a chance to stick around, as the Nats lack a consistent southpaw in their bullpen.
