August 7, 2008 Joe Torre stated before Thursday's game against the Cardinals that Jason Schmidt likely won't return this season, according to the LA Daily News. Torre said, "Yes, for this year. At this juncture, a lot would have to happen in a hurry for him to be able to pitch for us at this level. He would have to start throwing bullpens (now), and then his rehab probably would take him through the second week of September at this point. I think it would be a long shot."
Our View:The team has a lot invested financially in Schmidt, but only received one win out of him in 2008.
