September 18, 2008 2008 draft pick Conor Gillaspie registered his first major league hit against Dan Haren Tuesday and manager Bruce Bochy commented that he may get a start at third base before the end of the season, according to the SF Chronicle. Bochy added, "He's not ready for the major leagues right now, but he's close. He's going to be on a fast pace. When you come up here the year you're drafted, that's probably added pressure on you as a player. You get drafted and dream of making it to the major leagues, and you're here already. I like the way he carries himself. I like the way he's worked."
Our View:Gillaspie has a bright future with the Giants, but should not be on fantasy rosters in non-keeper leagues with less than two weeks left in the season.
September 7, 2008 The Giants purchased Gillaspie's contract from Class A Salem-Keizer on Saturday. Gillaspie was the 37th overall pick in the June amateur draft.
Our View:Gillaspie hit .269 with 15 RBI in 93 at-bats between two levels of Low-A. He is a batting average hitter with fair plate discipline, but this is nothing more than a courtesy call-up as the Giants look toward the future.
