Jared Wells and Joe Woerman to the minor leagues on Wednesday and had pitcher
Jake Woods decline his outright assignment and become a free agent.
In addition, the club also announced that infielder Yung Chi Chen was claimed
off waivers by the Athletics.
The 27-year-old Wells, who made his major league debut in 2008 and pitched to
a 10.13 earned-run average with the club over six games, was acquired from the
Padres in a May 28th trade that sent Cha Seung Baek to San Diego.
The Phillies have displayed interest in outfielder Raul Ibanez, according to Newsday.
Our View:Ibanez hits for power and a solid average, and would be a solid replacement for Pat Burrell if he signs with another club. Ibanez is also on the Dodgers' radar as a backup plan in case they can't retain Manny Ramirez.
The Cubs covet a run-producing left-handed bat and may target Raul Ibanez, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Our View:He previously played for Lou Piniella, and the Cubs tried to trade for him back in July. They have made contact with him during the off-season.
