San Francisco Giants 2007 Preview

Philadelphia PA (Sports Network) - The National League West Division was virtually up for grabs for much of the 2006 season, however the Padres and Dodgers separated themselves from the pack late in the year, while the Giants were one of the teams that struggled down the stretch. When all was said and done, San Francisco finished in third place, 11 1/2 games back of the NL West- Champion Padres.

Federal prosecution dropped four counts of lying against Barry Bonds on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Bonds still has 10 counts facing him and will likely still see a two-year prison sentence if convicted.

Jonathan Sanchez will not be traded for "any old player," according to the Mercury News.

Our View:Sanchez went 9-12 with a 5.01 ERA last year, but he's still only 26.
Edgar Renteria, SSThursday 12/4, 10:56 AM CT
The Giants have officially inked Edgar Renteria to a two-year deal for $18.5 million, according to FOX Sports.

Our View:The 33-year-old will replace Omar Vizquel at shortstop, with Emmanuel Burriss moving over to second. The Cardinals were interested in bringing back Renteria, but opted for Khalil Greene instead. Renteria was not offered arbitration by the Tigers, so the Giants do not lose draft picks by signing him.
