Blue Jays keep coaching staff intact
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays will be bringing back their entire coaching staff for the 2009 season.

The Blue Jays agreed to two-year contract extensions with pitching coach Brad Arnsberg, bench coach Brian Butterfield, third base coach Nick Leyva, first base coach Dwayne Murphy, hitting coach Gene Tenace and bullpen coach Bruce Walton on Tuesday.

Manager Cito Gaston, who led Toronto to a 51-37 record after replacing John Gibbons on June 20, signed a two-year extension last week.

Current Phillies GM Pat Gillick has no plans to return to his former employer, the Blue Jays, to fill their vacant team president seat when his contract expires at the end of this season, reports the Toronto Sun.

Our View:The 71-year-old plans to move back to his home on the West Coast after doing a masterful job getting the Phils to the playoffs over the last two seasons.

The Jays acquired left-handed pitcher Fabio Castro from the Phillies to complete the trade of outfielder Matt Stairs, according to the AP.

Our View:The 23-year-old held a poor 6.00 ERA and 1.83 WHIP over 12 innings with the Phillies this season.

Vernon Wells went 4-for-4 with five RBI in Sunday's 10-1 win over Baltimore. He hit two singles and two home runs.

Our View:Wells closed out the 2008 season with a bang and reached 20 home runs, with three coming over his last three games.
