Nats P Redding has surgery on toe
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Washington Nationals right-hander Tim Redding had surgery on his left foot on Friday.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Wiemi Douoguih and Dr. Lew Schon, who repaired the bone in the joint at the base of the second toe. Redding is expected to be ready for spring training.

Redding went 10-11 with a 4.95 ERA in 33 starts for the Nats in 2008.... More...

Newsbreakers
Nick Johnson, 1BThursday 12/4, 12:33 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports believes the Athletics may prefer Nick Johnson over Jason Giambi for first base.

Our View:The club may opt to trade for Johnson from Washington, rather than bring back free agent Giambi. Johnson has a poor track record with durability, and may not be ready for opening day while recovering from June wrist surgery, but the club likes his ability to get on base (held a .415 OBP over 38 games in 2008).
Tim Redding, PSunday 11/30, 2:13 PM CT
Tim Redding underwent surgery to repair a bone in a joint on his left foot, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:He will need around six weeks to recover, and is expected to be good to go for the start of spring training. Redding will be looking to bounce back, after going 10-11 with a poor 4.95 ERA over 33 starts with Washington in 2008.
Austin Kearns, RFSunday 11/30, 11:45 AM CT
Austin Kearns is making favorable progress in his recovery from bone spurs in his right elbow and a stress fracture in his left foot, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com. He isn't having any problems with his foot right now and is able to run and lift weights. He said, "It was kind of tough year. It's just something you have to learn from and get better from it."

Our View:He hopes to resume baseball related activities within a month. The oft-injured outfielder has missed 237 games over his last five seasons, and will remain a risky fantasy option for 2009 despite his favorable off-season progress.
