Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas doesn't seem to have much confidence in his teammates as he recovers from knee surgery, and he doesn't think failure would be such a bad thing this year, according to the AP. "If this is one of those years where we don't make the playoffs or we finish in last place ... that's what happened to San Antonio and that's how they got Tim Duncan and look at them now," Arenas said.

Our View:His reasoning isn't irrational, but in the future he may want to keep thoughts like that to himself with some NBA teams having a reputation for tanking at the end of their seasons to get a chance for a higher pick in the draft.

Washington guard Gilbert Arenas says he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from knee surgery and could make his return late in November, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:That would be well ahead of what was expected out of Agent Zero. When healthy, he obviously lights up the scoreboard, but he did just undergo his third knee surgery in a year and a half.

ESPN.com reports that Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards were fined $15,000 apiece by the NBA on Friday after he ducked out of the team's annual preseason media day, avoiding any discussion of his third left knee operation in 1.5 years.

Our View:Bold statement by the league, but Arenas should be able to cover his end of the deal after conning the Wizards into giving him a $111 million deal this summer.
