Mike James and Devin Brown will head into Hornets camp competing for the backup point guard job. Last year's top option, Jannero Pargo, moved to Russia over the summer. "Those guys will be banging it out to see who gets those minutes," head coach Byron Scott informs the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "It might be by committee. This is the first time in three years we are going to be unsure who is our backup."

Our View:Starter Chris Paul played over 37 minutes per game during the 2007-08 campaign, so this backup battle is of zero interest to fantasy leagues.

ESPN.com reports that the Hornets, Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies were in final discussions Thursday morning combining efforts on a multi-player package. The deal would send Mike James and Bonzi Wells to New Orleans, with Bobby Jackson, Adam Haluska and a second-round draft pick going to Houston. Different variations of the deal evolved Wednesday evening and as of one hour before the trade deadline, no official announcement has been made.

After one disappointing season with the Timberwolves, point guard Mike James is heading to Houston. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that a deal has yet to be finalized, but a trade will be announced as soon as Thursday that will send James to the Rockets for Juwan Howard – with possibly other small pieces involved as well. James has three years left on his four-year, $23.4 million deal, while Howard has two years left at $14.3 million on his deal. James gets a 15 percent trade kicker per his current contract, but the salaries still match close enough to make a straight swap possible.
