Amare Stoudemire had arguably his best game of the early season with 25 points, 10 boards and seven blocked shots in the Suns’ 99-93 win over the Nets Friday. Stoudemire has averaged 13.0 points and 6.5 boards this season as he slowly works his way back from the major knee surgery that knocked him out for most of last season.

Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said he plans to insert Amare Stoudemire into the starting lineup tonight against the Spurs, according to the Arizona Republic. "Eventually he's going to start anyway, so we might as well get going and get our rotation down and try to do what we're going to do," D'Antoni said. It looks like D'Antoni probably will go with Stoudemire, Steve Nash, Leandro Barbosa, Raja Bell and Shawn Marion as the starters. Just because he's starting doesn't mean Stoudemire is a shoe-in for major minutes now, so temper your expectations.

The Arizona Republic reports that Amare Stoudemire will enter the season as the Suns' sixth man. Kurt Thomas should start at center when the season gets underway, so that Stoudemire can continue to work his way back into game shape following his knee surgeries. He still isn't 100 percent and may not be for many months, which makes him a risky pick in the early rounds. Plus it's not clear when exactly he might return to the starting lineup or receive a full load of work.

Amare Stoudemire said Saturday that he is "about 100 percent" healthy, according to the AP. Stoudemire missed nearly all of last season following microfracture surgery on his left knee and had an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee last spring. "Right now I haven't felt any pain, no discomfort," he said. "I'm glad to be back." The status of his knees is the key to Stoudemire's value this year, and this certainly sounds positive.

After leaving practice early Thursday and being held out of Friday's scrimmage due to soreness in his right knee, Amare Stoudemire was back in practice Sunday, according to the Arizona Republic. Stoudemire said he had no discomfort in either knee the past three days and that occasional rest is all he needs. "It just shows you how much recovery helps, especially in my case," Stoudemire said. "I really need that - try to string together a few great practices, get a recovery day, string a few more great practices, recover and it should last me the whole season."
