August 22, 2008

August 8, 2008
USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo stated on Thursday that Carmelo Anthony is not in the best physical shape yet, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Colangelo said, "Carmelo still has work to do in terms of getting ready. He came up with a little cramp because of conditioning in Thursday's practice. We need a lot out of Carmelo."

Our View:Team USA opens the Olympics Sunday against China. Anthony disagrees with Colangelo and feels his conditioning is fine and not a problem.
August 5, 2008
With the NBA set to release the full 2008-09 schedule on Wednesday, the Denver Nuggets have learned the league will allow Carmelo Anthony to take part in the team's home opener, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View:The Nuggets will open the season with two road games against Western Conference foes, both of which Anthony will miss as he serves a two-game suspension for a DUI charge. That makes him available to start the season at home.
June 24, 2008
Carmelo Anthony has pleaded guilty this morning in his DUI case, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Anthony will get one year probation and be required to perform 24 hours of community service.

Our View:Anthony was suspended for two regular season games, and it remains to be seen if he will serve it on the Nuggets' bench next season.
June 23, 2008
Carmelo Anthony will be suspended two regular season games as a result of his DUI arrest in April, according to the Denver Post. Anthony will appear in court on Tuesday.

Our View:Will Melo sit out those games as a member of the Nuggets? The latest reports say yes, but you never know.
June 23, 2008
Carmelo Anthony's agent (Calvin Andrews) stated on Sunday that his client is not going to be dealt by the Nuggets, according to ESPN.com. Andrews said, "He's not going to be moved. It's not happening. We've been given assurances from the owner on down."

Our View:The latest rumor had Anthony going to the Pistons in exchange for a package that includes Chauncey Billups.
June 22, 2008
Updating an earlier report, it appears that despite the protestation of his agent and published reports, Carmelo Anthony might still end up being traded to the Pistons, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:This report states that the Nuggets want Chauncey Billups to return to his hometown of Denver in a package for Anthony. Rumors will likely continue to fly until a resolution to this matter is reached as the reports about this matter are all over the board.
June 22, 2008
Updating the drama surrounding Denver forward Carmelo Anthony , reports from Detroit indicate the Nuggets have rejected an offer from the Pistons for the embattled young All Star, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:The Free Press report indicates the teams are continuing to talk, but the Pistons' initial offer of Chauncey Billups and additional pieces hasn't been received with positive reviews. We know the Pistons are looking to unloaded Billups' number, an expiring contract that could be more valuable than anything. Billups is from the Denver area and it might be a reasonable spot to play out his NBA days. We will update if/when continued reports come forth.
June 21, 2008
Representatives of Carmelo Anthony, and possibly Anthony himself, will meet with the Nuggets on Monday to discuss the possibility of a trade, according to ESPN.com. The meeting is being initiated by Anthony, who has been upset about hearing his name mentioned in trade rumors. Detroit recently offered Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince for Anthony, but the Nuggets turned that down, countering with an offer of Allen Iverson or a package revolved around Marcus Camby.

Our View:Denver has said publicly that they're not trying to trade their superstar, but the trade winds haven't stopped blowing.
June 10, 2008
Carmelo Anthony's agent (Calvin Andrews) stated that his client isn't being shopped and won't be dealt by the Nuggets, according to the Detroit Free Press. Andrews said, "I would say nothing is happening. The Nuggets are not trading Carmelo."

Our View:The latest trade speculation had Anthony going to the Pistons. Anthony also previously said that the Nuggers told him they are not trying to deal him.
June 8, 2008
The Pistons could be willing to trade for Carmelo Anthony if Denver is willing to part with the 24-year-old, according to the Denver Post. It's been previously reported that New Jersey is interested in Melo.

Our View:Melo said last month the team told him they're not trying to deal him, but you never know. We'll keep you posted on this rumor.
May 21, 2008
Carmelo Anthony shot down trade speculation Wednesday, saying recent published reports are based on "bad information," according to the Rocky Mountain News. According to reports out of New York and New Jersey, the Nets and Nuggets have discussed parameters of a deal involving Anthony and teammate Marcus Camby. Anthony is entering the second year of a five-year, $78.9 million contract.

Our View:It appears Melo will be staying in Denver, though we'll let you know if the trade winds start swirling once again.
May 20, 2008
Trade speculation between the Nuggets and Nets continues regarding Carmelo Anthony, according to the NY Post.

Our View:The Nets are expected to be active this summer, and hold the 10th overall pick in the draft. If they don't trade up higher in the draft, they could deal their 10th pick to the Nuggets for Anthony. The Nuggets previously mentioned that Anthony is available for the right price. The Nets and Nuggets discussed various parameters of a deal, which would not occur until after June 30 when the full $14.4 million on Anthony's 2008-09 contract kicks in. Richard Jefferson and Marcus Williams for Marcus Camby and Anthony was one speculated proposal between the two teams.
May 16, 2008
There was a rumored deal that had Carmelo Anthony ending up as a New Jersey Net but those talks appear to be dead, according to the Rockey Mountain News.

Our View:Apparently there were "exploratory" talks about sending Anthony and Marcus Camby to the Nets, possibly in exchange for a package that included Richard Jefferson, but the deal is dead long before anything substantial even had a chance of happening.
May 1, 2008
Tests have shown that Carmelo Anthony's blood alcohol level was over the legal limit when he was arrested for driving under the influence on April 14. Attorney Dan Recht tells ESPN.com, "This is old news in that Carmelo has admitted from the beginning that he had been drinking and driving and he should not have been." Anthony is due in court on May 14.

Our View:We're not sure what sort of punishment the Nuggets or the NBA might impose on Anthony, but we doubt it will affect his 2008-09 fantasy value much, if at all.
April 20, 2008
Carmelo Anthony, who overcame any assumed distractions of a recent DUI arrest, had 30 points and 12 rebounds for the eighth-seeded Nuggets on Sunday.

Our View:Anthony and the Nuggets lost the Game 1 affair to the top seeded Lakers, but Anthony was effective in his effort shooting an effecient 11-for-26 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe.
April 15, 2008
Carmelo Anthony made a statement on Tuesday following his arrest for suspicion of DUI, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Anthony said, "First of all, everybody knows why I’m in front of you guys today. First of all, I’m just here to truly apologize to my fans, the Denver Nuggets organization, my family and my teammates for the distraction this brought them. Hopefully, we can put this behind us, I can put this behind me, but most importantly I’m here to just man up to my mistake and just to let you know that I’m truly sorry about what happened and everything that’s going on. What happened Monday morning was truly and totally unacceptable. But like I said, I just wanted to let you all know that I apologize, once again, to my fans, to my family, to my teammates for the distraction that I have brought to this organization, to this city and to myself. Once again, I want to thank everybody who’s been with me throughout this whole time, this whole situation. At the same time, truly to let you know that I’m really, really apologetic about the situation. I know that this is uncalled for. Right now it’s kind of bad timing, due to the playoffs, due to our team’s success. For this to happen, like I said, it’s totally unacceptable. Once again, I just want to apologize and let everybody know – let my fans know, let my family know and to let my teammates know -- that I apologize about the situation and that I’m here to man up to my mistake. Once again, thank you and I appreciate it."

Our View:Following his statement he joined his team-mates for practice. No suspensions or fines will be dealt until the results of his blood alcohol are revealed.
April 14, 2008
Carmelo Anthony has been arrested for a DUI, according to the Denver Post. Anthony was pulled over Sunday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, Anthony’s lawyer confirmed. Attorney Dan Recht added, "He cooperated by consenting to a blood test, the results of which will not be available for approximately two weeks. There was no accident and no one was hurt."

Our View:Hopefully this won't affect his availability in the playoffs.
April 13, 2008
Carmelo Anthony shot only 3-of-14 from the floor and scored just 11 points against the Rockets on Sunday. He added eight rebounds and one assist.

Our View:This is the same guy who had 36, 38 and 47 in the last 10 days, right? Carmelo obviously deferred to other hot hands on Sunday.
April 10, 2008
Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points on 12-of-20 shooting on Thursday night, and added nine rebounds as the Nuggets defeated the Golden State Warriors, 114-105. Anthony chipped in one helper, but his real assist came by hitting clutch shots and pulling down big rebounds throughout the second half.
April 9, 2008
As the playoffs approach and Denver fights to be included, Carmelo Anthony is doing what he can to insure his crew makes the cut. Melo went an astounding 13-of-17 from the field and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line to score 36 points. Melo’s other stats were lacking, picking up five rebounds and just one assist, but the Nuggets get the win, and that’s why Melo is their heart and soul.
April 5, 2008
Carmelo Anthony certainly wasn't slowed by his injured shoulder on this night as he pumped in 47 points for the Nuggets. Anthony took 24 shots on the night hitting a whopping 19 of them, in one of the most efficient big scoring nights of the season. Melo had 11 boards on the night and only turned the ball over three times, a surprisingly low total considering how often the ball made its way into his hands.
April 5, 2008
The Denver Nuggets reported Thursday the team has been keeping Carmelo Anthony out of practice as he nurses an undisclosed injury to his right shoulder, but his status for tonight's home game versus Sacramento has yet to be updated. The team has not played since Tuesday's big win versus Phoenix when Melo scored 25 of Denver's 126 points, including two clutch free throws near the end to secure the victory. With Denver fighting for the final spot in the Western Conference playoffs, it would seem likely he'll be on the floor, but stay tuned as we will update his condition when that information becomes available.
April 4, 2008
Carmelo Anthony did not practice on Thursday due to a sore right shoulder, but he should be able to play on Saturday. "(The shoulder) is not good — it's sore, very tender today," head coach George Karl tells the Denver Post. "I don't know how much he'll do Friday. The whole thing is just to calm it down, get it to where it's not irritating." Fantasy owners should keep 'Melo in their lineups unless we hear that he definitely won't play.
April 1, 2008
Carmelo Anthony was off target against Phoenix on Monday night as he only shot 7-of-18 from the field (and missed both from long range), but he still had a productive night as he scored 18 points with 11 boards, and four asssists. Great players always find a way to help their team when one part of their game isn't working, and Anthony did just that as his 11 boards were above his season average of 7.4.
March 27, 2008
Carmelo Anthony scored a game-high 32 points in the Nuggets' 118-105 win over the Mavericks on Wednesday. He also generated 10 boards, eight assists, and two steals. That was the 20th time that he reached at least 30 points in a game this season.

February 27, 2008
Carmelo Anthony had to exit Monday's game with a shoulder injury, but he's expected to suit up tonight, according to the Denver Post. This doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about, but keep tabs on how Melo performs.
February 25, 2008
Carmelo Anthony continued his impressive season with another big game on Monday night that included 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Even more eye opening was the fact that he turned the ball over just one time despite entering the game with an average of 3.6 per game. When Melo avoids the turnovers that often plague his game he goes from being really good player to an exceptional one.
February 18, 2008
Carmelo Anthony scored 18 points in the Western Conference's 134-128 loss to the East on Sunday night. Allen Iverson, his veteran teammate, scored seven points with six assists and six turnovers.
February 16, 2008
Carmelo Anthony would like the Nuggets make a deal for Kings forward Ron Artest. "I really believe that, if we get Ron Artest, that will make our team a lot more powerful, a lot more stronger, a lot deeper than we are right now," Anthony tells the Rocky Mountain News. "Ron Artest, you can't go wrong with him."
February 13, 2008
Carmelo Anthony scored a game-high 32 points on Wednesday night but it wasn't enough to lead the Nuggets to a victory. Anthony is amongst the league's leading scorers at over 26 points a contest, but he is also turning the ball over 3.5 times per game after last year's 3.6 mark.
February 9, 2008
Carmelo Anthony made 19 of 25 shots from the floor and sank all eight of his free throws en route to a career-high 49-point performance against the Wizards on Friday night.
February 4, 2008
Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points with 15 rebounds and five assists in the Nuggets 105-103 OT victory over the Bulls. Unfortunately Melo was only 10-for-27 from the field somewhat dampening solid raw numbers. Allen Iverson was equally as horrible from the field as he hit only 10-of-28 shots on his way to 25 points.
February 2, 2008
Carmelo Anthony is determined to return to action on Saturday, according to the Denver Post. We'll have to wait to find out whether his sprained ankle is more determined to keep 'Melo out. He'll likely test it out before the game and hopefully be on the floor for the tip-off.
February 1, 2008
Carmelo Anthony is listed as questionable for Saturday's game due to his sprained ankle, according to the Denver Post. He tested the joint out with some on-court work Thursday, which is a positive sign. But his status for Saturday likely won't be determined until he tries it out during pre-game warmups.
January 28, 2008
As expected, Carmelo Anthony skipped Sunday's game to rest his sprained ankle. However, coach George Karl said he thought 'Melo would be able to get back on the court for Monday's contest, according to the Denver Post. He's listed as questionable, and a decision regarding his availability won't be made until after he tests his ankle out during pre-game warmups.
January 27, 2008
Carmelo Anthony sounded Saturday like he would not be able to lace up for Sunday's game due to his sprained ankle, and coach George Karl dubbed the forward doubtful, according to the Denver Post. "I don't think I'm going to be able to go," Anthony said after Saturday's practice. "It will give me one more day of rest, and hopefully be back on Monday against New Orleans. If not (today), then definitely Monday." Realistically, if he isn't able to play Sunday, he'll still be iffy for Monday's run. Stay tuned.
January 26, 2008
Carmelo Anthony missed his second consecutive game Friday due to his sprained left ankle. He was out of his walking boot, though, and hopes to lace up his sneakers for Sunday's tilt with the Mavs, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "That's what I'm looking for, but I'm not going to push it," said Anthony. "If I feel like I can't make no moves or go left or right, I'm not going to (play)." It looked pretty bad when he initially sustained the injury on Monday, but it appears he lucked out and avoided a serious, long-term injury. He'll test it out Saturday and before Sunday's game to determine if he'll be able to play.
January 23, 2008
Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony is doubtful for Wednesday’s game against the Hawks due to the sprained left ankle he suffered on Monday, the AP reported.

Our View:This will be the first game Melo has missed all season. He missed five games with a sprained left ankle and another with a sprained right ankle during the 2004-05 season, but hopefully this injury isn’t as serious.
January 22, 2008
Denver forward Carmelo Anthony sprained his left ankle midway through the second quarter on Monday and was forced to leave the game. A team spokesman told the AP that X-rays on the ankle were negative and Anthony would be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
