Ron Artest appears likely to undergo elbow surgery soon. He's headed to have the joint examined on Monday, and all signs point to Artest having bone chips removed, according to the Sacramento Bee. We'll have to wait for further word on whether he ends up having the procedure and how long his recovery might take, but if he has the surgery, he'll certainly miss at least several weeks.

Two of the NBA's biggest headaches have been punished by the league for separate offenses. Ron Artest was suspended for the first seven games of next season after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge that occurred on March 5. Jackson received the same suspension for his guilty plea on felony charges of criminal recklessness. This will impact the fantasy value of both players, but keep in mind they’ll both be back by the third week of the season.

Ron Artest has two years left on his contract with the Kings and can opt out of his contract next summer, but told the New York Post he hopes to remain in Sacramento and retire as a King. “I really want to finish my career in Sacramento because of my relationship with some of the players,” Artest said. “I want to finish with Sacramento. I feel attached to Sacramento. I want to be their franchise player.” Said Kings general manager Geoff Petrie: “Ron is going to be a King.”

Kings forward Ron Artest pleaded no contest on Thursday to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge stemming from an altercation with his wife on March 5, the Associated Press reported. Artest was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a 10-day work project. He was also fined $600 and ordered to get extensive counseling. The judge also modified the restraining order that has kept Artest from seeing his wife, Kimsha, and his three children since the incident. Artest can now have peaceful contact with his wife and has no restriction on seeing his children.

Ron Artest slapped a woman's face and grabbed her repeatedly, causing visible injuries, according to a sheriff's report made public Tuesday. "Victim sustained visible trauma after being repeatedly grabbed by Artest and pushed to the floor," said the Placer County Sheriff's Department report. "Artest then slapped victim's face (and) by use of force prevented victim from leaving." Artest has been excused indefinitely from any further participation with the the Kings as a result.

The Kings have removed Artest from the team, pending a full investigation.
