Cavaliers release deaf center Allred
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers released center Lance Allred, the first legally deaf player in the NBA, on Wednesday.

Allred was signed to a pair of 10-day contracts last March before the team signed him for the remainder of the season in April. He played in three games and averaged one point.

He played four minutes in the Cavaliers' 104-84 preseason loss to Toronto on Tuesday.

Allred, who played in college for two years at Utah before transferring to Weber State, is writing a book about his disability and growing up in a polygamo... More...
Injuries
Newsbreakers
Ben Wallace, FSunday 10/12, 11:17 AM CT
Ben Wallace practiced on a limited basis Saturday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View:He is nursing a sprained ankle and a sore back. He has missed 15 games over the past two seasons, and his production has declined in each of his last five seasons. He could be ready for the start of the regular season, but should be avoided as a fantasy prospect in standard sized-leagues.
Delonte West, GSunday 10/12, 11:11 AM CT
Delonte West remains absent from camp while attending to an undisclosed personal matter, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View:He is a top candidate to start at shooting guard, but is missing valuable camp time, and could lose ground to Mo Williams and Wally Szczerbiak.
Wally Szczerbiak, GSunday 10/12, 11:06 AM CT
Wally Szczerbiak is returning to form heading into his first full season with the Cavs, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He is more comfortable with the team and said, "I think the camp's going well. I'm getting to know everyone a little better, going through the rigors, the aches and pains with all the guys doing shooting drills like we're doing, I think that's going to go a long way toward building chemistry and trust."

Our View:He is competing for the starting gig at shooting guard. He only averaged 11.5 points over 23.2 minutes per game in 2007, but averages 15 points over his career, and could get back on track as a full-time starter in 2008, making him worthy of a late-round pick.
