Doug Flutie announced his retirement from the NFL Monday, according to the Boston Herald. "Those of you who know me know how attached I am to this area and how important it is in my life,” Flutie said. “It’s been 21 years. I’ve had more fun and enjoyment at this game than anything else.”

Doug Flutie is expected to announce this week whether or not he is going to retire, according to the Associated Press. He's already indicated that he wouldn't want to play for any other team but the Patriots.

The Boston Globe reports that the Patriots have signed veteran quarterback Doug Flutie to a one-year contract. Flutie will have to compete with Rohan Davey for the backup job behind Tom Brady.

If Doug Flutie can't find work in the NFL, he could always return to the CFL. Ron Lancaster, GM of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, recently indicated on a radio interview that he planned to contact Flutie's agent next week, according to the Baltimore Sun.
