Quarterback Peyton Manning completed 25-of-34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns against one interception in the Week 5 win over Houston.

Our View:Manning still doesn't look completely comfortable but he posted his first multiple touchdown pass game of the season.
September 21, 2008
Peyton Manning finished Sunday's 23-21 loss to the Jaguars just 15-for-29 with 216 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Our View:Manning has more interceptions than touchdowns after three weeks. It seems apparent his absence for most of training camp is coming back to haunt him and the owners who drafted him. Expect all of the Colts to get a little sharper over the bye week this week and come back more effective in Week 5 at Houston.
September 14, 2008
Peyton Manning threw for 311 yards Sunday, but he also threw a couple interceptions.

Our View:This is Manning second straight decent fantasy day, but overall his play has been sub-par.
September 7, 2008
As expected, Peyton Manning was rusty on Sunday night, and it resulted in a loss to the underdog Bears. The Colts offensive general was 30-for-49 for 257 yards and one touchdown, but he missed several open shots downfield and often put his receivers in line for big hits from the Bears defense.

Our View:The 10-point underdog Bears dominated the Colts and blitzed their quarterback early and often. Manning just wasn't sharp enough to take advantage of Chicago's blitz-heavy scheme.
September 5, 2008
Peyton Manning is listed as probable on the NFL injury report. He has not played in the preseason due to knee surgery.

Our View:Manning will also be working without his center Jeff Saturday. It's probably too optimistic to expect the typical Manning performance against the Bears, but we wouldn't be surprised.
September 4, 2008
Peyton Manning knows it will be difficult to work with a new center, as starter Jeff Saturday will miss about six weeks, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Our View:Manning said it would be a challenge to work with either one of the players who will man center - Jamey Richard or Steve Justice - because they are unfamiliar with each other. Nonetheless, expect Manning to perform like Peyton Manning usually does for your fantasy squad.
September 3, 2008
Peyton Manning took a full practice with the first team offense on Wednesday and is good to go Sunday versus the Bears, this according to the NFL Network.

Our View:This will be the first time that Manning has gone into Week 1 of the regular season without taking a preseason snap.
August 29, 2008
Peyton Manning expects to start Week 1 against Chicago, according to SI.com. He felt good after practice Friday and said, "We're going to just keep progressing this weekend and going through next week. And hopefully we can just keep feeling better. It was good to get back there, doing the same things the rest of the guys were doing. Having to do rehab, having to miss practice, it's not really the situation that you want to be in. So it was good to get back out there, get in uniform, be around the guys. And hopefully that can be the sort of the norm from here on out."

Our View:This is encouraging news for the elite fantasy quarterback.
August 27, 2008
The Colts increased Peyton Manning's workload Wednesday, one day after he finally returned to practice and showed no lingering effects from the knee surgery that kept him out for the past six weeks, reports the AP.

Our View:“We didn’t have him in team work (Tuesday), but he did fine and hasn’t experienced any problems,” head coach Tony Dungy said. “So far, so good. He’ll get a little more work today.”
August 26, 2008
Peyton Manning practiced with the Colts Tuesday without a knee brace and looked "like the same, old Peyton," according to the Indianapolis Star. Still, coach Tony Dungy considers Manning, who is coming back from knee surgery, "iffy" for the opener against the Bears.

Our View:It sure sounds like Peyton will suit up for Week 1, but check back often for updates on his status.
August 26, 2008
Peyton Manning has been activated from the PUP list Tuesday, according to the AP. Manning underwent surgery on July 14 to have an infected bursa sac removed and has missed the entire preseason. Coach Tony Dungy said, "We have a chance to get Peyton activated and out to practice. So we’ll see how that goes. I think we’ll ease him in and see how he practices and what he’s able to do. We’ll see from there."

Our View:Manning is not expected to play in the Colts' preseason finale against the Bengals this week. We will keep you posted on his status as Week 1 draws closer.
August 25, 2008
Peyton Manning is expected to practice (full-squad) on Tuesday, according to the Indianapolis Star. The plan is to remove him from the PUP list, so he is eligible to practice. Coach Tony Dungy said, "I think we'll ease him in and see how he practices and what he's able to do and we'll see from there."

Our View:As previously stated, the Colts are hopeful he will be ready for Week 1 against Chicago. We will keep you posted on how he fares in his first practice tomorrow.
August 24, 2008
Anyone looking for a hint of how soon quarterback superstar Peyton Manning might return from his damaged knee might get it next weekend, when rosters are reduced from 75 players to 53 players, according to NFL.com.

Our View:Under president Bill Polian and head coach Tony Dungy, the Colts never have carried three quarterbacks into a season. At one point during one season, they briefly added quarterback Joe Hamilton to their roster, but otherwise, the Colts always have carried two quarterbacks. When the Colts open the season against the Bears, there's a chance they will carry three, with Quinn Gray being the favorite for that third spot and Jared Lorenzen being the underdog. If there are three quarterbacks on the Colts final 53-man, it will be a telltale sign that Indianapolis is not entirely comfortable with where Manning is at in his recovery.
August 22, 2008
After undergoing surgery to remove his bursa sac, Peyton Manning had a second surgery to his knee last month, according to Michael Lombardi of National Football Post. Manning has reportedly not been able to control the swelling in his knee

Our View:Of course, the Colts have denied this report, and have said that they are not very concerned with Manning's health. Either way, it may be time to bump Manning down in fantasy drafts. Either that, or be sure that you take another QB with a high pick.
August 21, 2008
Peyton Manning participated in the Colts' morning walkthrough Wednesday, according to Colts.com. Coach Tony Dungy said, "He took all the walkthrough reps today. He has a routine he’s in and pretty much that’s going to be it. He’s taking all the walkthrough stuff and backup Jim Sorgi’s taking the regular part of practice. Manning is here and involved and doing fine."

Our View:Manning will not play against Buffalo Sunday, but he has yet to be ruled out of the team’s preseason finale against the Bengals on August 28.
August 20, 2008
Colts' owner Jim Irsay noted that "it will be close" whether or not Peyton Manning is ready to start in Week 1, according to the Indianapolis Star. Irsay added, "Only he will know if he's ready. I think there's a good chance he will be. We know there's more rehab ahead, but he is on schedule. The anticipation is he'll be ready, but it'll be close."

Our View:Fantasy owners should draft Manning as a top-2 quarterback, and just acquire a solid backup as insurance in case Manning is not ready for Week 1.
August 19, 2008
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning could resume practice sometime next week and he remains in line to start Week 1 of the regular season, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View:Good news for fantasy owners, as Manning is still recovering from offseason knee surgery. There had been speculation that he would not be ready to go at the start of the season, and though that remains a slight possibility, it looks as if he will be on the field soon.
August 18, 2008
Peter King of Sports Illustrated believes there is up to a 35 percent chance Peyton Manning is not ready to suit up in Week 1. King asked coach Tony Dungy if he may miss the opener and he replied, "It could be. Because we're not going to bring him back too fast."

Our View:Manning isn't suffering any setbacks, but is still yet to practice following his knee surgery.
August 14, 2008
Coach Tony Dungy once again stated that Peyton Manning is on pace to start in Week 1 against the Bears, according to the Indianapolis Star. He is having no setbacks while recovering from knee surgery.

Our View:Manning shall remain ranked as a top-2 fantasy quarterback.
August 3, 2008
Peyton Manning has begun the rehab process on his left knee after having the joint immobilized so that doctors could treat an infection, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Our View:According to the report, the infection has subsided and Manning will move on to range of motion exercises before being cleared for strength work. He remains on track to start in Week 1.
July 29, 2008
Colts coach Tony Dungy says quarterback Peyton Manning is in Terre Haute but is being kept away from practice to prevent the risk of an infection in his healing left knee, according to the AP. He was missing from practice for the fifth consecutive day.

Our View:The Colts are taking every precaution with their signal-caller, and rightfully so. It could be a month before Manning is taking snaps but it should not take long at all before the offense once again gets comfortable around their captain. Manning and the Colts offense should be 100% by Week 1 and on their way to another exceptional season.
July 26, 2008
Peyton Manning has yet to report to training camp, missing once again today from team activities, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The two-time league MVP missed his second straight day of Colts practice Saturday as he continues to recover from knee surgery at his Indianapolis-area home. He had an infected bursa sac removed from his left knee July 14 and doctors have instructed him to stay home to avoid risking another infection. Neither Colts coach Tony Dungy nor Manning, who addressed the injury during a conference call with reporters Thursday, have said when he is expected to arrive at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where the Colts practice through August 15th.
July 22, 2008
SI.com reports that Colts head coach Tony Dungy thinks that Peyton Manning (knee) may be ready to participate in preseason games.

Our View:Manning had surgery last week to remove an infected bursa sac, a procedure doctors said would require four to six weeks to heal.
July 17, 2008
Archie Manning indicated that his son Peyton Manning's rehab from knee surgery is going well, according to the Indianapolis Star. The elder Manning said, "I think he’s doing fine, really. Peyton will deal with it. He’ll rehab and go at it 100 percent. I know Peyton and he’ll make the best of his days and try to contribute."

Our View:Manning has started 160 consecutive regular-season games, which is the longest active streak among quarterbacks in the NFL, unless Brett Favre returns. As previously stated, Manning is expected to be ready for the season opener against the Bears on September 7.
July 16, 2008
The IndyStar.com is reporting that Peyton Manning could miss the Colts' five preseason games. However, the team believes he will be ready for the September 7, regular-season opener, against the Chicago Bears. "That's our expectation," team president Bill Polian said Tuesday afternoon.

Our View:According to the report, everything went well during Manning's surgery and the doctors are very confident in a quick recovery. The initial prognosis is for Manning to miss between four and six weeks.
July 15, 2008
ESPN's Shaun King reported on NFL Live that he spoke to Tony Dungy, who stated quarterback Peyton Manning could return in as little as three weeks.

Our View:Manning underwent surgery approximately eight weeks before the season opener, and the original timeframe for his return is 4-6 weeks. Either way, it appears that Manning will be ready for the start of the season, barring any setbacks.
July 14, 2008
The Indianapolis Star suggests that Peyton Manning is "uncertain" for the season opener after undergoing surgery on Monday to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee. The Colts called the operation "routine" and placed a timetable of four-to-six weeks. Manning had been receiving treatment for his condition since February.

Our View:As we noted earlier, the surgery came roughly eight weeks before the opener. The Colts aren't renowned for their timetable work (um, Marvin Harrison), but we're betting on Manning being ready to go. And, remember, we're talking about Peyton here. He could not throw a pass between now and September 7 and still probably post 300 and three against the Bears.
July 14, 2008
Peyton Manning underwent left knee surgery on Monday and had a bursa sac removed, NFL.com reports. He will need four-to-six weeks to recover. "The procedure was routine. The Colts' medical staff expects a full and complete return to action," president Bill Polian says. Colts training camp opens on July 25.

Our View:We're eight weeks away from Week 1 of the NFL regular season. As long as Manning recovers in six weeks, we won't be worried. It's not like he needs those reps with the Colts offense to figure out what he's doing.
June 5, 2008
Peyton Manning has never missed an NFL game, and in order to keep that streak intact, and his arm strong, Manning has cut back his throwing schedule, according to NFL.com. "I try to be smart in preserving my arm, so I had our trainer call the trainers for (Dan) Marino and (John) Elway and Favre to see what you do after 32 because it's kind of uncharted territory," Manning said.

Our View:We would bet that Manning will still throw for 3,700-yards and at least 26 TDs as he has done in each of the past 10 seasons even if he tosses a few less passes in the off-season.
April 4, 2008
The NFL was supposed to announce its entire regular-season schedule yesterday, but the date has been pushed back, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said during the NFL meetings that he expected the full regular-season slate to be announced in the next two weeks.
March 31, 2008
The Indianapolis Colts will host the Chicago Bears in the 2008 Sunday night primetime season-opener on NBC, according to ESPN. The game, which will represents a rematch of Super Bowl XLI, is the first regular season contest at Lucas Oil Stadium.
March 26, 2008
The Indianapolis Colts have ensured continuity in the front office for the foreseeable future by signing President Bill Polian to an extension, according to the Indianapolis Star. Owner Jim Irsay said the extension was finalized several months ago and is for another three or four years. "I see him here hopefully for a long time, but certainly through 2011 or whatever it is,'' Irsay said. Polian, 65, has been the primary architect of the Colts' long run of success. Since Irsay hired him prior to the 1998 season to oversee all on-field operations, the franchise has developed into one of the NFL's most successful. The Colts have posted a 105-55 regular-season record over the past 10 seasons, reached the playoffs eight times and won the Super Bowl after the 2006 season.
February 10, 2008
Peyton Manningstarted for the AFC in Sunday's Pro Bowl loss but did his part to get the team off to a 17-7 first quarter lead. Manning was 11-of-16 for 147 yards and a touchdown.
