As expected, Peyton Manning played only one series in the Week 17 game against the Titans. Jim Sorgi took over. Manning completed all seven of his passes for 95 yards and a touchdown in the opening drive. He surpassed 4,000 yards for the third straight season.
Our View:Joseph Addai is also done after one series. Fantasy owners shouldn't be surprised.

Our View:Coach Tony Dungy also noted that he intends to rest as many starters as possible to gear up for the playoffs. Manning should not be considered for fantasy lineups.

Our View:With this effort Manning has 26 touchdowns on the year, the 11th straight season of his career that he has reached that total. He will hopefully play enough in Week 17 to get his 4,000 yards as well as he has 3,907 yards after tonight.

Our View:This seems a bit strange. By my math, the Colts would be able to get a first round bye if they beat the Jaguars and Titans, and the Titans lose to Pittsburgh this weekend.

Our View:Manning, along with his brother Eli Manning, will become the first set of brothers to ever be selected to the same Pro Bowl. Eli will be a reserve quarterback for the NFC squad.

Peyton Manning led the Colts on a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime for the 35th time in his career on Sunday night, as the Colts knocked off the Chargers 23-20. He went 32-of-44 for 255 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.
Our View:Manning didn't have as good of a game as was expected against the Chargers' weak defense, but he still got the job done for the Colts and finished with decent fantasy numbers.

From here on out, NFL referees will have to take a member of his crew with him to the sidelines where the replay booth is, according to the New York Post. However, the second official will not be allowed to view the replay. His purpose is to write down the referee's ruling and where the ball should be spotted in an NFL-provided notebook.
Our View:This tweaking was put into effect because of the touchdown that was taken away from the Steelers at the end of their game last week. The purpose of this is to simply have everything written down. In the past, officials could have told a referee if they noticed he made a mistake, so we're not exactly certain how this will change anything except to take more time as the referee explains the ruling to the official so he can write it down.

"I’m not really sure what injuries you’re talking about, but he hasn’t been listed on the injury report all year. ... I don’t think he’s injured. He hasn’t been on the injury report, so I am assuming he’s not hurt," Belichick said.
Our View:Funny how Belichick would reference the injury report, since he is thought to have manipulated that very report for years. We're sure Polian and the rest of the Colts' brass is relieved to have Belichick's diagnosis.

GM Bill Polian has shot down rumors that Peyton Manning might be dealing with an injury, according to the Tribune Star. "... I can assure that Peyton is not hurt," he said. "He has no injuries to speak of. There's nothing wrong with his arm. There's nothing wrong with his knee. So to put those kinds of conjecture to rest, he has not appeared on the injury list and won't because he doesn't have an injury. We made some throws [Monday] night that we'd rather have back, I'm sure. It had nothing to do with injury."
Our View:This is obviously comforting to Manning owners. The quarterback hasn't been himself statistically this season, but as long as he's healthy, as it appears he is, he should be fine.

ESPN's Trent Dilfer has suggested that Peyton Manning might be dealing with a hand or arm injury because the ball is not coming out the way it normally does, according to NFL.com. Replays of Monday's game seemed to back up what Dilfer was saying.
Our View:Manning is averaging over 250 yards per game, but his 10/9 touchdown to interception ratio isn't very Peyton-like, so perhaps Dilfer is on to something here. It's at least worth monitoring.

Our View:One of the interceptions went straight through the hands of Dallas Clark, so the numbers appear a bit worse than they should have been. Manning has just 10 touchdowns in seven games and will have to pick up his game in order to record 26 touchdowns for the 11th straight season.

The Colts have issued a statement regarding Peyton Manning's knee surgery, according to their official team website. The statement said, "Peyton Manning developed swelling in his left pre-patella bursa in late February. The swollen bursa was treated conservatively beginning in February with drainage and anti-inflammatory medication. The first signs of infection occurred while he was in New Orleans in July. It should be noted that infection developed prior to any surgery. Upon manifestation of the signs of infection, he immediately had surgery to remove the bursa sac. Concurrently, he was treated aggressively with antibiotics, and the infection was eliminated. The second procedure (tacking of the skin to eliminate the bursal space) was designed to ensure the complete and swift resolution of the bursal problem. The procedure was successful. The second procedure was in no way, shape or form, related to the infection. The second procedure did not delay his rehab or recovery materially. It also should be noted emphatically that, at no time, did he have MRSA. It is clear from consultation with our physicians, including infectious disease specialists, that staph is a societal medical problem. There is no empirical evidence that indicates to our physicians there is a problem related to resistant staph (MRSA) with respect to the Indianapolis Colts."
Our View:For fantasy purposes, Manning will be fine for Monday's AFC South showdown with the Titans.

Our View:Manning has now thrown seven interceptions to go along with his eight touchdowns. In 2008 the elder Manning has only had one game when he has thrown for over 300 yards.

"The reason I just didn't really confirm or deny it the first time was I just didn't really want the Bears to know they were playing against a guy that was four weeks off of surgery," he said. He didn’t look like himself until Sunday, when he passed for 271 yards and three scoring strikes and had his highest quarterback rating of the season at 134.7. Our View:Baltimore's secondary was banged up, but this was still an impressive performance by Manning. He has really picked up the pace over the last two weeks with five touchdown passes, but his schedule doesn't get any easier at Green Bay and at Tennessee over the next two weeks.

Jim Nantz and Phil Simms reported during the Colts game on Sunday that Peyton Manning said he had two surgeries in the off-season on his knee. The second surgery was due to an infection, and he had 80 stitches after the surgeries. Manning now says that the knee is not an issue.

Our View:The 10-point underdog Bears dominated the Colts and blitzed their quarterback early and often. Manning just wasn't sharp enough to take advantage of Chicago's blitz-heavy scheme.

Anyone looking for a hint of how soon quarterback superstar Peyton Manning might return from his damaged knee might get it next weekend, when rosters are reduced from 75 players to 53 players, according to NFL.com.
Our View:Under president Bill Polian and head coach Tony Dungy, the Colts never have carried three quarterbacks into a season. At one point during one season, they briefly added quarterback Joe Hamilton to their roster, but otherwise, the Colts always have carried two quarterbacks. When the Colts open the season against the Bears, there's a chance they will carry three, with Quinn Gray being the favorite for that third spot and Jared Lorenzen being the underdog. If there are three quarterbacks on the Colts final 53-man, it will be a telltale sign that Indianapolis is not entirely comfortable with where Manning is at in his recovery.

The Indianapolis Colts have ensured continuity in the front office for the foreseeable future by signing President Bill Polian to an extension, according to the Indianapolis Star. Owner Jim Irsay said the extension was finalized several months ago and is for another three or four years. "I see him here hopefully for a long time, but certainly through 2011 or whatever it is,'' Irsay said. Polian, 65, has been the primary architect of the Colts' long run of success. Since Irsay hired him prior to the 1998 season to oversee all on-field operations, the franchise has developed into one of the NFL's most successful. The Colts have posted a 105-55 regular-season record over the past 10 seasons, reached the playoffs eight times and won the Super Bowl after the 2006 season.
