R.W. McQuarters returned to fielding punts in Monday's practice following his battle with a calf ailmment, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:McQuarters is reliable at catching and securing the ball on punts, but is not a threat to score. He hasn't returned a punt for a touchdown since 2004, while a member of the Bears.

Giants cornerback and return man R.W. McQuarters did not practice on Friday, and he probably will not play Week 3 against the Bengals, according to the New York Daily News.

R.W. McQuarters missed practice Thursday due to his calf injury, according to the New York Times.

Our View:McQuarters is the Giants' primary punt returner. In case he is forced to miss Week 2 against the Rams, his listed backups are Domenik Hixon, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Sinorice Moss.

Earlier today we sent along a report from the New York Daily News suggesting veteran cornerbacks Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters were set to be cut, but Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports this is not the case. The league office has received their list of final cuts and neither of those defensive backfielders is listed as a released player, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:Two players who didn’t make the roster were quarterbacks Anthony Wright and Andre Woodson, meaning the Giants have decided to join the ranks of teams with just two quarterbacks on the roster. Eli Manning will start and David Carr will back him up.

With final roster cuts looming, reports from New York indicate both veteran cornerbacks Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters are likely to be sent packing, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Madison, 34, was a starter last season and McQuarters, 31, clinched two playoff victories with interceptions. But now it appears the starters are Aaron Ross and Corey Webster, with promising youngsters behind them in Kevin Dockery and rookie Terrell Thomas. It is unclear whether Coughlin will keep all six.
