Newsbreakers
December 29, 2008
Impending free agent Takeo Spikes said he wants to re-sign with the 49ers, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:Many believed Spikes was no longer capable of solid production, but that did not prove to be true as Spikes racked up 96 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles and three interceptions with San Francisco this season.
September 28, 2008
Linebackers Takeo Spikes started over Jeff Ulbrich in Week 4 and ended up with seven solo tackles and an interception.

Our View:Spikes had been building up to this starting gig, and we weren't surprised to see this news. He had a solid IDP showing this week, but we're not sure if he can sustain it. Spikes has been in decline since tearing his Achilles in 2005.
September 22, 2008
Takeo Spikes is overtaking the playing time of Jeff Lbrich at inside linebacker seeing nearly three times as many snaps in Week 3, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:Spikes has only 11 tackles this season, and he and Ulbrich combined wouldn't offer enough production on a weekly basis to be considered a starter in IDP leagues.
September 18, 2008
Middle linebacker Takeo Spikes got two-thirds of the 49ers snaps at the position he shares with Jeff Ulbrich during Week 2, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View:Spikes picked up five tackles in the contest, and Ulbrich amassed two. As long as they split time, neither is a particularly good IDP option.
September 5, 2008
Takeo Spikes is expected to split playing time with Jeff Ulbrich at the "Ted" position in the 49ers' linebacking corps in Week 1, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Ulbrich should see more time among the pair, namely since he has more experience within the defense and Spikes has been with the club for less than a month. Spikes should only be considered as a deep reserve in IDP leagues as of now.
