Our View:This was to be expected after the Lions finished the season at an infamous 0-16. The 1976 Buccaneers were the last club to go winless, with an 0-14 mark.
December 22, 2008 Daunte Culpepper (shoulder) will not be ready to play in Week 17, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Our View:Culpepper signed a two-year deal and if the Lions fail to re-sign Dan Orlovsky or another free agent quarterback, he could be the Week 1 starter next season.

Our View:Daunte Culpepper (shoulder) is out. He will be replaced by Dan Orlovsky at quarterback.
December 18, 2008 The Detroit Free Press reports that Daunte Culpepper (shoulder) did some light throwing drills for the second consecutive day. However, he is still unlikely to play on Sunday against New Orleans.
Our View:Coach Rod Marinelli has already named Dan Orlovsky the starter for the game, so there's no point in holding onto Culpepper.
December 18, 2008 According to MLive.com, the Lions Week 1 starter for 2009 is not currently on their roster. Both Jon Kitna and Dan Orlovsky are free agents, while Daunte Culpepper is signed through 2010.
Our View:Many believe that the Lions will select Matt Stafford with the No. 1 overall pick and he may take over from the start. If they go a different direction with that pick, expect them to be strong players for Matt Cassel or even Kerry Collins in the free-agent market.
