Ravens coach Brian Billick hinted on Tuesday that Mike Anderson and Musa Smith could eat into the workload of Jamal Lewis a little more this week against the Panthers, according to the Baltimore Sun. "We have a lot of confidence in all our backs," Billick said. "I'm not going to get caught up in who has how many carries. If a back is having a hot hand and running well, then we'll kind of ride that a little bit. But [Lewis] is running hard and he had some good tough runs." In Week 5, Lewis received 15 carries while Smith and Anderson combined for eight.

Regardless, he will lose carries this season to Mike Anderson, who signed with Baltimore earlier this month. "We don't want to put Jamal out there on a 350- to 380-carry year," Billick said. "That's not in his best interest. I think Jamal recognizes that. Every back wants the ball but by year's end, it's 'Oh, I wish I didn't have this many.' "They told me that they would let me know this week [but] it won't surprise me if they franchised him," said Mitch Frankel, Lewis' agent. The Ravens have not had any negotiations with backup Chester Taylor, who will become a free agent March 3.
