August 29, 2008
Marcel Shipp has been released by the Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:The 30-year-old was only brought in for depth while Ahman Green was dealing with his groin injury.
August 17, 2008
With Ahman Green out for another two weeks with a groin injury, the Texans have signed veteran running back Marcel Shipp to add more experience and depth to the backfield, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Shipp, who turned 30 this month, was waived by Arizona, where he played the last seven seasons after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2001. Shipp, 5-11, 224, should be at practice Monday. He joins veterans Chris Brown, Chris Taylor, Darius Walker and rookie Steve Slaton in a crowded backfield.
August 4, 2008
The Arizona Cardinals have released running back Marcel Shipp, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Shipp only had 32 carries the last two years, but he was highly productive his first two seasons, rushing for over 800 yards in both. Though Shipp will be 30 years old in four days, he can still be an effective backup for some NFL team.
October 2, 2007
Cardinal running back Marcel Shipp is expected to play this weekend after leaving Sunday’s contest with bruised ribs, according to the Arizona Republic. Shipp will see only a handful of carries if he plays, and as long as they are not at the goal line, he has no fantasy value.
August 6, 2007
There’s no denying that Edgerrin James will start at tailback for the Cardinals, but the Arizona Republic reports that Marcel Shipp will still play a significant role as a backup.

Our View:The logic behind this report is that new head coach Ken Whisnenhunt is high on Shipp and feels that his straight ahead style will offer a nice change of pace for James. Obviously, we’ll be watching closely to see which back gets the goal line carries during the preseason games.
