The Bears cut Chad Hutchinson Tuesday, according to the AP. "He just didn't progress the way we thought he would. That's the short of it," Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said. "I'm sure he's as disappointed as we are." Hutchinson had been demoted to fourth string quarterback on Sunday.

After Chad Hutchinson posted a 0.0 passer rating in an ugly performance during Friday's exhibition game, Bears coach Lovie Smith hinted that rookie Kyle Orton may take over as the starter, according to the Chicago Tribune. "Chad didn't have a good night," said Smith. "He made a lot of bad plays. I was really pleased with how Kyle stepped in and gave our offense a boost."
