The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have substantial cash flow in the coffers and plan to spend some of it on an extension for cornerback Phillip Buchanon, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Keeping Buchanon has become more of a priority since Brian Kelly exercised an option to buy back the final year of his contract becoming a free agent. Buchanon was having the best season of his career in 2007, before foot and wrist injuries slowed him down during the last few games of the season.

The Texans released Phillip Buchanon Monday, according to the AP. The former first-round pick has dealt with many injuries and has been just plain ineffective for the majority of his five years in the league. "When (Demarcus) Faggins went down, Phillip had the opportunity to become a starting cornerback," Kubiak said. "Unfortunately, he got hurt and missed most of training camp. Then he got hurt in the first game. He had trouble staying on the field. But we wish him well."

Phillip Buchanon, who missed last week's game with an ankle injury, will be ready to go against the Redsksins this week, according to the Houston Chronicle. "He's fine this week, and he's going to play," coach Gary Kubiak said of Buchanon. "We need as many corners as we can get, and we need them to play well against Washington, just as we do all of our players."
