December 19, 2008
Brian Westbrook (ankle, knee) sat out Friday's practice but is expected to play Sunday at Washington, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

December 18, 2008
Brian Westbrook was limited at practice on Thursday because of his injured knee, according to the Eagles Official Website.

Brian Westbrook has been banged-up this season but commented that he is feeling good, according to the Eagles' official website. Westbrook said, "No question. That three days of rest is big, especially for a guy who has been injured like I have. Let your knee and ankle rest a little bit. It's been very important for me. Since the beginning of the year, since I started getting injured, this probably is the best I've felt. Hopefully that will continue and get better as the year goes on."

Our View:Westbrook regained his status as a fantasy stud as he scored four touchdowns on Thanksgiving Day against the Cardinals, and should continue to roll in another tough match-up against the NFC East rival Giants at the Meadowlands on Sunday.
November 27, 2008
Brian Westbrook scored four touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving) in Thursday's 48-20 win over Arizona. He rushed 22 times for 110 yards and hauled in three receptions for 20 more yards.

November 25, 2008
Brian Westbrook missed Tuesday's practice while nursing a swollen knee, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:His playing status for Thanksgiving Day against Arizona does not look promising as of now. Correll Buckhalter (sprained MCL) also missed practice, and the shifty Lorenzo Booker is worth adding for insurance.
November 24, 2008
Brian Westbrook is not practicing Monday, according to NFL.com.

Our View:This is of concern as the Eagles have a short week as they host the Cardinals on Thanksgiving Day. Lorenzo Booker is worth handcuffing for insurance with Correll Buckhalter (sprained MCL) likely out.
November 23, 2008

Our View:Westbrook remains a risky fantasy option, especially against the Ravens' third ranked run defense.
November 22, 2008
Brian Westbrook sat out a third straight day of practice on Friday. Westbrook is still hampered by a sore ankle and knee. Head coach Andy Reid told the Philadelphia Daily News, "we'll see how he does here the next couple days."

November 21, 2008
Philadelphiaeagles.com reports that Brian Westbrook missed all three practices this week. Westbrook, who sat out of workouts with inflammation in both his knee and ankle, seems to be a game-time decision Sunday in Baltimore as he is dealing with various knee and ankle ailments.

Our View:It looks like Correll Buckhalter will see the bulk of the carries for Philadelphia this week against a very stout run defense.
November 21, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook sat out a second straight practice with knee and ankle injuries, according to PhillyBurbs.com. "I'm pretty sure it's not going to be completely healed, this week or next week or whenever. It's one of those situations where you try to get it as good as you can get it on Sunday and then play through it,” Westbrook said.

Our View:We're betting Westbrook gives it a go on Sunday, but we don't recommend starting him as he faces a tough matchup against a Baltimore run defense that was somewhat embarrassed last week.
November 19, 2008
Brian Westbrook said that his ankle injuries will continue to be a problem for the rest of the season until he can rest, according to the Eagles' official site.

Our View:Westbrook isn't as productive when he's playing hurt, but he's still a better bet in fantasy than many alternatives. We'll keep you posted on his status for the weekend.
November 19, 2008
Brian Westbrook did not practice Wednesday while nursing knee and ankle ailments, according to the Eagles' official website.

Our View:The Eagles have a tough match-up against the Ravens this weekend, so fantasy owners may not be wise to go with Correll Buckhalter as a replacement if Westbrook is unable to go.
November 19, 2008
Jason LaCanfora of the Washington Post is hearing that Brian Westbrook is badly hurt and wonders if the Eagles will shut him down, at least for a week or two.

Our View:To make matters worse, the Eagles have to contend with a relentless and hard-hitting Ravens' defense in Week 12. It was previously reported that Westbrook looked hobbled during practice earlier in the week. Fantasy owners should have insurance in place in case he is unable to go.
November 16, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook rushed 14 times for 60 yards and caught three passes for 11 yards in the Week 11 tie with the Bengals.

Our View:Did the Eagles mistakenly replace Westbrook with Reno Mahe a few weeks ago? The stud is clearly not 100 percent, as he's gone three straight games without a score and without a 100 total yards. His current streak of sub-par play is worrisome.
November 16, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook (knee) is active for the Week 11 game against the Bengals.

Our View:Westbrook may be less than 100 percent, but he is a good start against the lowly Bengals.
November 15, 2008
Brian Westbrook is expected to be fine despite sitting out the end of Friday's practice, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Coach Andy Reid said, "He's fine. When you go on that turf like we did yesterday, it bangs up his legs a little. So I was just giving him a little bit of a breather."

Our View:He should be penciled into fantasy lineups in a favorable match-up against the Bengals' 25th ranked run defense.
November 12, 2008
Brian Westbrook fully practiced Wednesday, according to the Eagles' official website. He is listed on the injury report with his knee injury.

Our View:He is banged up, but today's full participation is encouraging news. He has a great match-up this weekend against the Bengals' 25th ranked run defense.
November 11, 2008
Brian Westbrook commented on his health, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Westbrook said, "It's tough to say what your percentage of health is. As a player, you go into every game ready to play, but of course, you're never going to be quite 100 percent during the season. Once you get injured once in the football season, it takes a long time to get completely healthy. For me, I'm still fighting the injury bug, tying to get completely healthy. There's no question I'm not 100 percent. My goal is to be out there and try to help this team. I want to be out there until coach feels I'm not able to help this team anymore. I think I'm still able to help this team win football games."

Our View:He is banged up but is still averaging 4.1 yards per carry. He should be able to exploit the Bengals' 25th ranked run defense and generate solid fantasy numbers this weekend.
November 6, 2008

November 2, 2008
Brian Westbrook only had 61 yards on 20 carries Sunday, but also added 35 yards through the air on six receptions.

Our View:Westbrook neared 100 total yards on Sunday, and should remain in fantasy lineups for next week against the Giants.
October 26, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook carried the ball 22 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 8 victory over Atlanta.

Our View:Westbrook, who also chipped in six receptions for 42 yards, appears to be all the way back from the rib and ankle injuries, after handling 28 touches in Week 8.
October 24, 2008

October 23, 2008
Brian Westbrook (ribs/ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice and should be ready to go for Sunday's game against the Falcons, according to the team's website.

October 22, 2008
The Eagles expect running back Brian Westbrook to be ready for the Eagles Week 8 game against the Falcons, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Corell Buckhalter has been filling in for Westbrook and even if he is back you still might want to hold onto Buckhalter.
October 20, 2008
Brian Westbrook stated that he is on track to return to action this weekend against Atlanta while the Eagles are coming off a bye, according to ESPN. Westbrook is recovering from two fractured ribs.

Our View:This is encouraging news, but there is no indication from the team that he will return yet, and Correll Buckhalter should still be held on rosters.
October 13, 2008
Coach Andy Reid commented today that star running back Brian Westbrook is progressing from his rib injury and has a shot to return in Week 8 following the Eagles' bye, according to the Eagles' official website.

Our View:The Eagles will host Atlanta in Week 8, who are allowing 118 rushing yards per game.
October 12, 2008
QB A.J. Feeley (3rd), DB J.R. Reed, RB Brian Westbrook, DE Bryan Smith, G Shawn Andrews, G Mike McGlynn, WR Kevin Curtis, WR Reggie Brown.

Our View:Correll Buckhalter will start in place of Brian Westbrook, who is inactive due to a rib injury. Wide receivers Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis are also inactive, which means additional targets for DeSean Jackson, Hank Baskett, Greg Lewis and Jason Avant.
October 10, 2008
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has officially been ruled out for the team's game Sunday against the 49ers, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Westbrook has fractured ribs, keeping him on the sidelines. Correll Buckhalter will likely get the start in his place. He can be a good flex option, at least, as the 49ers are 23rd in the NFL in run defense, and have given up eight rushing touchdowns, tied for seventh-most in the league.
October 9, 2008
Brian Westbrook missed Thursday's practice while nursing his fractured ribs, according to the Eagles' official website.

Our View:He is yet to be ruled out, but he seems unlikely to play this weekend. Correll Buckhalter would replace him as the starting running back in a favorable match-up against the 49ers.
October 9, 2008
Brian Westbrook commented that his fractured ribs hurt when he sneezes, turns, twists, or makes any sudden movements, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. But he added that he would do all he could to get ready to play Sunday against the 49ers in San Francisco. He said, "I'm just trying to get healthy enough to play and get to the point where the pain is not as strong and try to get out there on the field."

Our View:He has a favorable match-up against the 49ers, but it would make sense for him to sit out the game with a bye in Week 7. We will keep you posted on his status, and Correll Buckhalter would start in his place.
October 8, 2008
Brian Westbrook sat out Wednesday's practice, according to the Eagles' official website.

Our View:He is considered day-to-day with two fractured ribs, and looks to be a game-time call for Sunday at San Francisco. If unable to go, Correll Buckhalter would start in his place in a favorable match-up.
October 7, 2008
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will not decide until late in the week whether he will play Week 6, and claims that even if he does suit up, his action will be limited, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Now, do I want to be out there at 45 percent and take a hit and hurt this team more than help it? No. I would rather have Correll Buckhalter, a proven running back, a guy who can get the job done, carry the team," Westbrook said.

Our View:Westbrook has two broken ribs, an injury that can be very painful while being smashed into by a 250 lb. linebacker. We'll monitor his status and keep you informed.
October 6, 2008
Brian Westbrook is optimistic that he will be able to overcome ankle and rib injuries to play in Week 6, according to the Eagles Official Website. "I'm an optimistic person. I'm a guy that thinks that every injury can be overcome," Westbrook said.

Our View:We wish we could be as optimistic but two broken ribs cast a serious cloud over his potential involvement this weekend. He is right about the positive attitude, hopefully he can send some of that energy to his injured body parts.
October 6, 2008
Brian Westbrook's status for Week 6 is "very much in doubt," according to the Eagles' official website. Coach Andy Reid said, "We'll see how that works out for him over the next couple of days. Right now he's very sore."

October 6, 2008

October 6, 2008
Brian Westbrook is slated for an MRI today to examine his bruised ribs, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Following the loss to Washington Sunday, Westbrook noted that the strained right ankle that kept him out against Chicago felt pretty good after the game. We will keep you posted on his status following the results of his MRI.
October 5, 2008
The injury that Brian Westbrook suffered early in the Week 5 loss to the Redskins is being labeled as a rib contusion, the team's official web site reports.

Our View:Westbrook returned after heading to the locker room, so we hope he'll be fine moving forward. Between the ankle and the ribs, Westbrook is sure to miss practice time in the coming week.
October 5, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook rushed 12 times for 33 yards, caught six passes for 51 yards, and scored in the Week 5 loss to the Redskins.

Our View:You know Westbrook is good when this effort feels disappointing. He missed some time during the game due to an upper body injury. Fantasy owners should obviously feel free to use the stud moving forward.
October 5, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook was able to return during the first half of the Week 5 game against the Redskins. He headed to the locker room in the first quarter.

Our View:Fantasy owners can breathe easy.
October 5, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook headed to the locker room during the first quarter of the Week 5 game against the Redskins. He jogged off the field, and he may have an upper body ailment. Westbrook has recently been dealing with an ankle injury. Correll Buckhalter entered the contest.

Our View:We'll update Westbrook's status when more is known. With the Eagles up 14-0 early and driving again, they may not rush their best weapon back too quickly.
October 5, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) is active for the Week 5 game against the Redskins.

Our View:Fantasy owners should feel free to use Westbrook, even though he may be slightly limited. In most cases, he is too valuable to bench when you know he will be playing.
October 5, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook remains a game-time decision, according to Steve Wyche of the NFL Network.

Our View:Wyche said he had talked to an Eagles source who advised him the team was leaning towards starting Westbrook. But we won't know for sure until the inactive lists are submitted later this morning. Stay tuned.
October 3, 2008
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook participated fully in the team's practice on Friday, and is expected to play against the Redskins, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com.

Our View:Westbrook is still listed as questionable, he took part in the entire practice, which is an upgrade over what limited work he had been doing.
October 2, 2008
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is making progress and took some reps in practice on Thursday, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com. "He did a little more today than yesterday, and we'll give him a little bit more tomorrow," said Eagles coach Andy Reid.

Our View:Westbrook is suffering from a sprained ankle, and his status for the team's game against the Redskins is unknown at this point.
October 1, 2008
Brian Westbrook participated in Wednesday's walkthrough, according to the Eagles' official website.

Our View:He could see some reps in the afternoon practice, which would improve his chances to play in Week 5 against Washington.
September 30, 2008
Brian Westbrook felt fine running straight ahead during warmups prior to Sunday's game at Chicago, but had difficulty making cuts and moving laterally, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View:He didn't attempt to play against the Bears, and risk being out several more weeks. He wasn't able to practice Monday and his status for Week 5 against Washington remains unknown.
September 28, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) is inactive for the Week 4 game against the Bears, NFL.com reports. Correll Buckhalter will start in his place.

Our View:Fantasy owners who've been waiting for this news should simply plug Buckhalter in for Westbrook. He is nowhere near as dynamic, but Buck has filled in decently when Westbrook was hurt the last two years. Lorenzo Booker and Tony Hunt should also see action.
September 27, 2008
The Kansas City Star reports that Brian Westbrook is listed as questionable for Week 4's matchup against the Bears. He injured his ankle in the second quarter of last week's game against Pittsburgh and did not return.

Our View:He will likely become a game-time decision and the Eagles may elect to go with Correll Buckhalter. There are a number of better options at running back this week other than Westbrook, who is very risky. Even if healthy, the Eagles figure to be without Pro Bowl left guard, Shawn Andrews.
September 26, 2008
Brian Westbrook will likely end up being listed as doubtful to play in Week 4 because of his injured ankle after missing his third straight day of practice on Friday, according to Scout.com.

Our View:This isn't the official report from the team but it's a pretty clear indication that the team is probably going to have to turn to Correll Buckhalter. Given the fact that Westbrook will be a game-time decision, you would probably be much better off going with a safer option to avoid getting shut out at the running back position this weekend if Brian doesn't end up playing.
September 25, 2008
For the second straight day Brian Westbrook was held out of practice to get treatment on his injured right ankle, according to the Eagles official web site. Head coach Andy Reid said that Westbrook was showing improvements but didn't say for sure if he would play in Week 4.

Our View:The Eagles are playing this whole injury close to the vest but if Westbrook can't go Correll Buckhalter and Lorenzo Booker will see more carries.
September 24, 2008
Brian Westbrook did not practice Wednesday, but coach Andy Reid noted that he saw good improvement regarding his injured right ankle, according to the Eagles' official website.

Our View:Reid also reiterated that it will be a race to get him ready for Sunday's game at Chicago. If he cannot go, Correll Buckhalter and Lorenzo Booker would handle the workload at running back.
September 22, 2008
Updating an earlier report on the condition of Brian Westbrook, the team is hopeful that his right ankle strain might not preclude him from playing this weekend, according to the Associated Press. “My goal is to come back and play as soon as possible,” Westbrook said. "It’s going to be painful. You have ligaments and tendons in there that may have been sprained.”

Our View:If Westbrook can't play Correll Buckhalter will draw the start, so he should be one of the top waiver-wire pickups this week if he isn't already rostered. Lorenzo Booker would likely also see some action as the backup if Westbrook can't go.
September 22, 2008
Updating an earlier report, Brian Westbrook is considered day-to-day due to his right ankle strain, according to the Eagles' official website.

Our View:His MRI did not reveal any significant damage. This is good news as his status did not initially look encouraging after walking with the aid of crutches following Sunday's game.
September 22, 2008
Brian Westbrook is scheduled for an MRI today after injuring his right ankle in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Coach Andy Reid said, "Westbrook has an ankle strain and he'll have an MRI in the morning. Off the X-rays, it's not fractured."

Our View:Westbrook needed the aid of crutches to leave the locker room following the game and he was also sporting a walking boot as he changed into street clothes. He declined to talk with the media after the game.
September 21, 2008
Brian Westbrook injured his right ankle on the first play of the second quarter and did not return to the game according to the AP. The All-Pro running back appeared to get hurt while hurdling a teammate on a two-yard run. He walked to the locker room without help, but did have an obvious limp. Coach Andy Reid said X-rays showed the ankle wasn't broken, but Westbrook will have an MRI on Monday.

Our View:Stay tuned. This could shake up some leagues as Westbrook is widely regarded as a Top 5 back. If he is to miss extended time, Correll Buckhalter will assume the bulk of the Eagles' running back duties.
September 21, 2008
Brian Westbrook exited the game against Pittsburgh during the second quarter with an undisclosed leg injury.

Our View:Westbrook is headed to the locker room to be checked out by the medical staff. No further information is currently available.
September 15, 2008
Brian Westbrook rushed 18 times for 58 yards, caught six passes for 45 yards, and scored three total touchdowns in Monday's loss to the Cowboys. It was his second straight multiple-touchdown game.

Our View:The Cowboys actually did well to limit Westbrook to only 103 total yards. Given LT's toe injury, Westbrook is making a strong case to be considered the top fantasy player.
September 7, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook carried the ball 19 times for 91 yards and posted two receptions for one yard and two touchdowns in the season opener.

Our View:Westbrook, who appears to be in mid-seaason form, has picked up where he left off in the prior two seasons. In other words he's still a stud.
August 8, 2008
Updating an earlier story, Brian Westbrook's newly signed deal with the Eagles appears to include an additional $13 million over what he was scheduled to make the next couple of seasons, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Westbrook will make $21 million over the next three seasons and that he cold earn up to $24 million if certain individual performances levels are reached. None of this is official yet, but a "source" for the paper stands behind the figures.
August 8, 2008
Brian Westbrook has agreed to terms with the Philadephia Eagles on a new contract Friday, according to the AP. The Eagles did not disclose details of the agreement with Westbrook, who had been seeking a contract similar to the eight-year, $60 million contract that LaDainian Tomlinson signed with the San Diego in 2004. Coach Andy Reid said, "As I’ve said many times, I believe Brian Westbrook is the best running back in football. He can do it all from that position, whether it’s running, catching the football or blocking."

Our View:Westbrook got his new deal out of the way, and should resume his role as a top-5 fantasy running back this season.
August 6, 2008
Eagles rusher Brian Westbrook spoke with reporters today and indicates he is optimistic the Eagles and his agent will reach terms on a new contract agreement soon, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com. While the Eagles' star running back focuses on football, his agent and the team's front office are working on the specifics to ensure a deal gets worked out. "I'm positive. I'm really optimistic about how things have been going," Westbrook said during his press conference on Wednesday.

Our View:Westbrook said that he could play as much as a quarter-and-a-half on Friday in Pittsburgh, but his time on the field hinges on what head coach Andy Reid wants. The preseason is not a time where No. 36 tries to shine. Fantasy owners agree and would prefer to see those efforts saved for games that matter. We'll keep you posted on his efforts to get paid.
August 3, 2008
Running back Brian Westbrook was excused from training camp practices on Saturday due to flu-like symptoms, according to Philly.com.

Our View:Coach Andy Reid sent Westbrook off the field fearing he would be contagious. We didn't want fantasy owners to worry, but it will likely be a few days before you see Westbrook struggling out in the heat (and that might be a relief for owners hoping to see their top commodity resting rather than straining).

Brian Westbrook stated that he wants a new contract before the start of the regular season, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Westbrook is in camp, but when asked if he would participate in the first preseason game, August 8 at Pittsburgh, Westbrook said he would cross that bridge when he came to it.

Our View:Westbrook is the focal point of the Eagles' offense, and the team intends to ink him to a new deal, but it remains to be seen if it comes prior to Week 1 of the regular season.

Brian Westbrook is still looking for a new contract, but reported to training camp Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View:Missing camp would have cost Westbrook a fine of $15,000 a day plus a prorated portion of his signing bonus. He considered not reporting, but opted to honor his commitment as a leader of the team.

With training camp set to commence and the Eagles looking to start on a positive note, reports from Philadelphia indicate the agent for rusher Brian Westbrook has contacted the team to suggest his client is worthy of a new contract paying $10 million per season for the first three years of the deal, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:The stories out of the city of brotherly love suggest Westbrook's decision to hire his new agent, Todd France, was based solely on France's assertions that he would get the 29-year-old rusher a certain level of compensation for his services, and now the time has come to see if he can live up to his word. Sources also report that several top NFL player agents withdrew their name from consideration for the opportunity to serve Westbrook after they heard the numbers he was set to demand, implicating such a deal is not likely to be found.

Brian Westbrook has decided to fire his agent (Fletcher Smith), which could potentially lead to the elite running back holding out from the start of training camp, according to the AP. Westbrook is currently unhappy with his current five-year, $25 million contract with the Eagles. Unable to negotiate a new deal, Westbrook fired Smith on Monday and is considering holding out from training camp, which opens Monday for rookies and selected veterans in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. According to the NFLPA, Westbrook cannot officially hire a new agent until Saturday, but Westbrook likely will name John Rickert as Smith’s replacement.

Our View:Westbrook knows how valuable he is to the Eagles' offense, and you cannot fault him for wanting a lucrative new deal. We will continue to monitor the situation heading up to training camp.

Brian Westbrook commented on his workload for the upcoming season, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Westbrook said, "They haven’t talked to me about lightening my workload, or anything like that. I’m a fan of carrying the ball, and having the ball in my hands, but I also want the best for this team. I know sometimes it’s better to spread the ball, allow them to get the ball into different people’s hands so that we can present problems for a defense."

Our View:Westbrook should continue to be the focal point of the Eagles' offense, especially when you consider the news circulating that Donovan McNabb may have a shoulder ailment.

Eagles' offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said that the best thing for the team could be to use Brian Westbrook less, according to the PhillyBurbs.com. Mornhinweg commented, "We really leaned on him hard last year. We had to. We had no choice. We were forced to because of injuries. Donovan McNabb was just coming back, L.J. Smith was hurt, and Brian had such an unbelievable season. Two-thousand yards rushing and receiving. He did everything." Westbrook added, "I wouldn't mind it being the same. I think I've been very productive with the ball in my hands with that many touches. I think I can continue to do that. Of course, with us adding more playmakers like DeSean Jackson and guys like that, you need to get the ball in his hands, and Booker as well. You can try and do some different things that might take the ball a little bit out of my hands."

Our View:As dynamic and versatile as Westbrook is, Mornhinweg believes the Eagles grew predictable last year. Westbrook racked up 2104 total yards and 12 touchdowns in 2007, but the Eagles only finished 17th in the NFL in scoring. That's why Mornhinweg thinks more balance will not only help the offense become less predictable but will also make Westbrook more dangerous. While Westbrook will be hard-pressed to put up the numbers he did last year, he should still remain an elite fantasy back. Less touches also limit the risk of injury, as Westbrook is still only 5-10 203 pounds.
