Kalvin Pearson has been fined $7,500 for his horse-collar tackle of Devin Hester on a punt return late in Week 9 against the Bears, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:Hester could have been seriously hurt on the tackle, and Pearson deserves to be fined.

Two felony charges against Kalvin Pearson have been dropped, according to MLive. Pearson was initially charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and domestic battery by strangulation. During an incident with the alleged victim, Pearson was also charged with a misdemeanor, obstructing or opposing an officer without violence, and that charge still stands.

Our View:Pearson is scheduled to be arraigned on the misdemeanor charge on September 8, but he does not have to appear for that hearing.

Detroit Lions safety Kalvin Pearson was arrested Saturday in southwest Florida on domestic violence charges, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Pearson was charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman and domestic battery by strangulation, both felonies, according to an arrest report from the Hillsborough County sheriff's office. He also was charged with obstructing or opposing an officer without force, a misdemeanor, and was being held without bail in a Tampa jail. Pearson, who is in his fourth NFL season, formerly played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He led the Buccaneers in special teams tackles in 2007, with 21, and appeared in all 16 games in 2007. Pearson signed with the Lions as a restricted free agent in March.

Kalvin Pearson signed a three-year contract with the Detroit Lions after Tampa Bay declined to match the offer sheet, according to the Tampa Tribune. The deal is worth $3.5 million, including $1 million in guaranteed money. Pearson, who earned $516,360 last season, led Tampa Bay with 21 special teams tackles last season.

Pearson, who earned $516,360 last season, led Tampa Bay with 21 special teams tackles. The Bucs now have seven days to match Detroit’s offer or Pearson will sign with the Lions. In addition, Tampa Bay will not receive any draft compensation if Pearson signs because he entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2002.
