Kyle Boller has been placed on the IR due to his shoulder injury (partially torn labrum), according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:His shoulder did not respond favorably to treatment, and the team decided to end his season. Todd Bouman fills his spot on the roster, and is set to back up rookie starter Joe Flacco this weekend.

It’s unclear whether Ravens passer Kyle Boller’s shoulder injury is a torn or partially torn labrum, but regardless, he’ll be out for two weeks minimum and perhaps the entire season, according to Pro Football Weekly. Earlier in the week we reported general manager Ozzie Newsome had confirmed the team's preference for the starting quarterback position was facing a serious injury but they believed he would not require surgery. It now appears the team is uncertain what the specific problem may be and the results have been troublesome for the entire offense.

Our View:Baltimore was hoping to keep rookie QB Joe Flacco on the bench for most, if not all, of this season. It will be much more difficult to accomplish that if Boller is lost for the season, leaving Flacco as the primary backup to Troy Smith, who is also on unsure footing after missing time with tonsillitis, and the recently signed Casey Bramlet serving as the No. 3. Baltimore coaches and medical staff will wait a few weeks to see how Boller is healing after he undergoes another set of tests on Friday and then make a judgment on whether or not he should have season-ending surgery.

Baltimore gerneral manager Ozzie Newsome confirmed that Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller is facing a serious shoulder injury, but does not need surgery at this time, according to the Baltimore Sun. "Kyle Boller could play again this season," Newsome said. "That could change, but this is good news."

Our View:With Boller out of the short-term picture, either Troy Smith or rookie Joe Flacco will be responsible for leading the Ravens offense.

The MRI results on Kyle Boller's right shoulder were not favorable, and the Ravens are currently seeking a second opinion, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Boller has not been able to raise his right arm over his head, which is a bad thing for quarterbacks. This injury, coupled with Troy Smith's illness, means Joe Flacco could become the starter for Baltimore.

It appears there may be need for deeper concern about the undisclosed shoulder injury Baltimore quarterback Kyle Boller has suffered, according to the Baltimore Sun. When asked late yesterday afternoon if Boller's injury might be season ending, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said that it was unconfirmed, and he would know more by Friday morning.

Our View:Asked if he had started shopping around for another quarterback to replace Boller, Newsome said no, and he wouldn't do anything until he got the report on Boller. The team may be working behind the scenes if they feel the situation is dire, but it would seem wise to wait and see what the training camp cuts from around the league may unleash. There will be some quality arms that could be available for hire, but only time will tell if the Ravens even need another passer. Until we have a confirmed report on Boller, everything is speculation. We'll keep you posted.
