Bears defensive end Mark Anderson underwent surgery on his right thumb and will not play in the team's preseason game on Thursday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:The injury is not thought to be serious, and Anderson should be good to go for the regular season.

Mark Anderson is expected to return to his role as a situational pass rusher with the Bears this season, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:He excelled as a pass rusher in his rookie season as he made 12 sacks, but he reverted to 4.5 sacks in 2007, when he was handed a bigger role. Alex Brown should return to his starting spot, so Anderson can continue to do what he does best, as a sack artist.

The Bears placed Mark Anderson on IR Monday. Anderson suffered a knee injury in Week 15 and was not active this past week. The defensive end had a disappointing year, finishing with five sacks after his 12-sack rookie campaign.
July 27, 2007
Mark Anderson will find his name at the top of the defensive end depth chart when the Bears open training camp on Friday. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Anderson will be listed ahead of Alex Brown.

Our View:Anderson took the starter’s reps during the offseason workouts and apparently that will continue during training camp. Anderson racked up 12 sacks last season, which makes him a target for IDP owners.
