October 16, 2008 Calvin Lowry has moved ahead of Marlon McCree at free safety and could be the starter against New England on Monday night, according to the Denver Post. Lowry said he practiced with the Broncos' first-team defense Wednesday in the team's first workout in preparation for the Patriots.
Our View:The Broncos signed Lowry off waivers from Tennessee on September 1, and he has played as a backup to McCree and strong safety Marquand Manuel, in dime packages and on special teams so far this season. Lowry, in his third season out of Penn State, started 11 games for Tennessee last season and had two interceptions. He has just one tackle this season.

Our View:The Broncos lost John Lynch this offseason and revamped their safety spots. They are set for the opener, but Lowry might have a chance to earn time down the road. He has no IDP value.
