Newsbreakers
October 24, 2008
Victor Abiamiri will be in line for more reps on defense this week against the Falcons, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. He had a solid off-season and entered training camp as a starter at defensive end opposite Trent Cole. But he sustained a broken wrist right away and needed surgery. He practiced only briefly before playing in San Francisco in Week 6. Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said, "He's going to play a lot this week. He might play 20 or 25 reps. I think it's just the tempo and speed of the game. I think he's going to be a good player for us. He's going to help us."

Our View:Abiamiri is already a solid defensive end and is still improving, and is worth targeting as a flier in IDP leagues as his playing time, and production, looks to increase going forward.

Victor Abiamiri had the screws removed from his injured hand and could resume practicing soon, according to the Eagles' official website.

Our View:Abiamiri is a solid pro and will provide a boost to the Eagles' rotation at defensive end, but should not yet be considered for fantasy rosters.

Defensive end Victor Abiamiri hasn't ruled out playing in 2008, and the Eagles continue to keep him off the injured reserve, the team's official web site notes. Abiamiri suffered a serious right wrist injury in late July and needed surgery. The worst-case scenario called for a four-month recovery. "Things have gotten progressively a lot better since the first day it happened and after surgery," Abiamiri says. "It's kind of a week-to-week, day-to-day kind of progression. It's an injury where it takes a little bit of time to heal, but it's not a season-ending injury."

Our View:The Eagles had planned for Abiamiri to play a significant role as part of a rotation at left end. Juqua Parker and Chris Clemons are now holding down that spot. Abiamiri could still end up on IR before the season starts.
July 30, 2008
Eagles defensive end Victor Abiamiri may miss the entire season after two screws had to be inserted into his wrist during surgery, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View:This is a significant blow to the Eagles defense as Abiamiri, a second-round selection last season, was in competition to grab a starting job.
July 29, 2008
The Philadelphis Inquirer reports that Eagles' defensive end Victor Abiamiri had surgery on his right wrist today and will be out indefinitely. The length of his absence had yet to be determined. Counted on to be an integral part of the rotation on the defensive line, Abiamiri suffered the injury on Sunday. He was picked out of Notre Dame on the second round of the 2007 draft.

Our View:He wasn't necessarily going to start, but he was going to be a factor. It is unknown how long he will be out, but the Eagles defense should be sound without him.
