Our View:Grimes was undrafted and is just 5-10, but the coaching staff seems intent on letting him have a shot to play.
June 4, 2008 Brent Grimes is working with the first-team as DeAngelo Hall's replacement at cornerback, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He has displayed strong abilities with excellent athleticism, and coach Mike Smith commented, "He's a very athletic, undersized corner, but I don't think he plays little. He plays with good size. He's got the speed and the quickness you're looking for."
Our View:Grimes can be viewed as an underdog, as he is only 5-10 180 pounds, and came from small school Shippensburg (which is in Pennsylvania in case you haven't heard of it). Von Hutchins, who was the previous top contender for the starting cornerback spot, has been moved to the nickel role.
May 28, 2008 Second-year cornerback Brent Grimes has impressed the Atlanta coaching staff in OTAs. Assistant head coach Emmitt Thomas told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Grimes was probably the best athlete on the team and that experience is the only thing holding.
Our View:Grimes has a chance to take over for the departed DeAngelo Hall at left cornerback. He's on the small side, so bigger receivers could be problem, but the Shippensburg State product is certainly making an impression thus far.
