The Washington Post reports that TE Fred Davis has finally agreed to a four-year deal with the Redskins.

Our View:The 48th overall pick got the deal inked just a day before training camp opens. With Chris Cooley ahead of him on the depth chart, he doesn't figure to be much of a fantasy factor this season.

Rookie tight end Fred Davis has spoken with head coach Jim Zorn, apologizing for oversleeping and missing the team’s final minicamp practice on Sunday. The organization said the matter would be handled internally, according to the Washington Post. After the Redskins completed their first OTA on Monday at Redskins Park, Vinny Cerrato, Washington's executive vice president of football operations, said that Davis got the message. "The biggest thing is, as long as they learn from their mistakes, that's the biggest thing," Cerrato said. "The kid felt awful. Jim got a chance to talk to him and Jim's handling it internally. I've talked to his agents and the kid feels horrible, which he should. Anytime you miss anything, to me it's important. Especially when you're here to ... he's making his first impression. Do what's right. He made a mistake. Now, he's got to fight back from the mistake."

Our View:Davis isn’t exactly getting off on the right foot in Washington, but looking at the glass as half full, he did look good when he did participate, making several nifty grabs in 7-on-7 drills.

Rookie second-round draft pick Fred Davis did not show up for minicamp practice Sunday, prompting the Redskins to send security officials to find him, according to the AP. Coach Jim Zorn said, "Everybody was scouring. Nobody heard from him, so there was one of two scenarios. Either there was some real trouble and we needed to find him, or he screwed up. I haven’t even got to talk to him yet. I know he has been found. I believe it is more in the ‘I screwed up’ category."

Our View:The team was expected to give more details on Davis’ absence later Sunday. If he can stay out trouble, he has a good chance to make an impact as a complementary tight end to starter Chris Cooley, as Davis has great hands and thrives on making tough catches in traffic. He also runs well after the catch.

The Washington Redskins selected Fred Davis in the second round with the 48th overall pick of the 2008 draft. The 2007 John Mackey Award winner had a senior season that spiked his draft stock. Davis is one of several tight ends in the draft that is a converted wideout.

Our View:Davis plays like a basketball player in a football players body. He has excellent hands and runs better than average routes. The book on the rookie is that he's hard-working and has that certain something, that "it", if you will. After a senior season that raised his stock, his value took a small hit with a disappointing combine. Davis is not particularly big or fast for the position (basketball body), but he has the talent to be a starter in the right system. There won't be much playing time for the rookie, not with Chris Cooley in the fold. Davis offers some depth behind the 'Skins current tight end core, and his ability to lineup as an H-back makes this Redskins pick -- solid.

The Minnesota Vikings are targeting USC tight end Fred Davis and Note Dame tight end John Carlson with their second round pick, No. 47 overall, in the NFL draft according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Our View:Last year, the organization signed Visanthe Shiancoe to a lucrative free agent deal, but he failed to meet expectations. The team is also said to be giving serious consideration to offensive tackles Sam Baker (USC) and Duane Brown (Virginia Tech).
