Rookie wideout Mario Manningham was back on the practice field Thursday, after he was in the hospital for flu-like symptoms earlier this week, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Manningham's status is not known, though he may get a chance to play with Plaxico Burress out due to a suspension. He has not yet caught an NFL pass.

Mario Manningham has been hospitalized due to a severe case of the flu, according to the NY Daily News. Coach Tom Coughlin said, "He’s not that much better, to be honest with you. We’re awaiting some further testing that had to be done there. We’re just trying to find out why he’s continuing to be sick."

Our View:Manningham could have seen a boost in playing time in Week 5 with Plaxico Burress suspended, but it appears that he might not even be able to play. He has failed to stay healthy since being drafted by the Giants in April, and is yet to notch his first NFL reception.

Mario Manningham missed Monday's practice due to the flu, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:He will stay away from the team until he gets well, to prevent other players from getting sick. He could have seen more action in Week 5 against Seattle with Plaxico Burress suspended, but missing practice will hurt his chances. The rookie is yet to catch a pass this season.

Third-round rookie receiver Mario Manningham (Michigan) has locked up a roster spot, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham and Dominek Hixon have all nailed down spots, with one more believed to be available. Manningham got off to a shaky start with the Giants due to a quad injury, but bounced back well and notably led the team in receiving against New England on Thursday.

Wide receiver Mario Manningham is expected to return to practice on Wednesday, head coach Tom Coughlin tells the team's official web site. Manningham has been out since early in camp due to a sore quad. "If he can practice and hold up through the practices, I am figuring that he would then get the green light and if he does get the green light (for Saturday)," Coughlin says.

Our View:At this point, Coughlin may simply find the rookie and drag him onto the field. Manningham has done nothing to suggest he will have a role in the Giants offense this season.
