Our View:Merling will compete for playing time in the Dolphins' rotation along the defensive line as a rookie, and projects to be a future starter with the team.
April 26, 2008 The Miami Dolphins selected Clemson junior Phillip Merling with the first pick (32nd overall) of the second round. The ACC honorable mention at defensive end has the size, power, and quickness to have a significant role on the Miami defensive line in his rookie season.
Our View:Merling is a solid choice by Miami. The defensive end was expected to go in the first round, so for now let's call the pick a steal.
