Newsbreakers
September 6, 2008
Lawrence Jackson has nailed down the starting job at right defensive end, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View:He had a good training camp and preseason, and is the first rookie defensive end to start with the club since Jeff Bryant in 1982. He will split time with Daryl Tapp and his fantasy impact looks to be limited in his debut.

The Seahawks used their first draft pick of the year to add defensive end Lawrence Jackson to the roster with hopes he would excel and become an unquestioned starter as a rookie, and with the final roster cuts coming down and depth charts being formulated, all indications suggest he has fulfilled those expectations, according to the Sporting News.

Our View:Jackson's noteworthy physical advantages over Darryl Tapp have been matched by his mental ability to grasp the system and impliment lessons with immediacy. Tapp will see time in spot action in passing situations, but Jackson has shown a propensity to grow by leaps and bounds and should be an immediate impact player in his first season.

First-round pick Lawrence Jackson will start his second straight preseason game at defensive end over veteran Darryl Tapp, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View:Jackson is better against the run than the pass, so he doesn't figure to get much love in IDP leagues.

The Seahawks inked first-round pick Lawrence Jackson (USC) to a five-year deal worth $11.25 million, according to the Tacoma Tribune.

Our View:He is signed on time so he has a good shot to start alongside Patrick Kerney at defensive end immediately. He is solid against the run, but also has the athleticism to consistently pressure the quarterback on the pass rush. He could rank as an IDP sleeper as a rookie in 2008.
April 26, 2008
Seattle used their first round pick to select Lawrence Jackson as the 28th overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft. The USC team captain was named to the All-Pac-Ten first team in 2007.

Our View:The versatile lineman played mostly end during his college career but has the ability to move inside if necessary. He finished his career with 30.5 sacks. Hawks head coach Mike Holmgren and his defensive staff put a huge emphasis on rushing the passer, and Jackson brings this to the table right out of the gate.
