The Lions will keep Marcus Thomas following the signing of Rudi Johnson, according to the Detroit Free Press. He was claimed off waivers from the Chargers Sunday.

Our View:He will serve as the No. 3 running back behind rookie Kevin Smith and Johnson. Thomas is built well at 6-1 215 pounds and has good vision and excels at finding holes, but he lacks speed and has inconsistent hands which led to his release by San Diego.

The Lions claimed rookie running back Marcus Thomas off waivers on Sunday, the AP reports. He was released by the Chargers on Saturday.

Our View:The Lions only have two other running backs (Kevin Smith and Tatum Bell) on the active roster. Thomas will presumably take over the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.
July 1, 2008
The Chargers have inked fifth-round rookie running back Marcus Thomas (UTEP), according to Chargers.com. The deal is for four years, but financial details were not disclosed.

Our View:He is a big back at 6-2 215 and runs with a slashing style. He is expected to battle Darren Sproles and fellow rookie Jacob Hester for playing time behind Ladainian Tomlinson.
